Spied: 2018 Ford F-150 Turbo-Diesel (And Refresh!)
So it makes sense that Ford is looking to change it up a bit with a new front-end look for the 2018 model year even though its current F-150 design debuted for model-year 2015. Of course, there may be some other clues under all that padding (as well as the big red kill switch on the dash) that could hint at what type of new powertrain is sitting under the hood. Here's what our photo spies sent us.
"It appears that Ford has now begun testing the first prototypes for the F-150's midcycle face-lift.

And Ford has NEVER refreshed at a 3 year cycle on trucks, EVER. Even back in the 50's when their cars changed considerable every year. Their average since the 1960's has been about every 5 years, although 97-03 was an outlier, as was 73-79.
It might have a diesel, the grille might be a little different, like they did during the 2009-2014 trucks, but I wouldnt expect major changes to the appearance
They still arent building certain variants, now almost 2 years into the process (Supercab Long bed trucks) and certain other variations (supercrew with 6.5' beds) are fairly rare

Call it what you want, refresh, update, mid cycle refresh, whatever. It won't be a complete redesign, but I would call it a refresh.
Look at the changes Ford did for the 2011 F-150 (within 2 model years after the 2009):
- all new engines
- EcoBoost, along with a 3.7, 5.0 and 6.2
- new SelectShift transmission
- best in class fuel economy and towing
- the most powerful half-ton on the market
- all new brakes (courtesy of 2010)
- electric power steering
- e-locker across almost all models, not just FX4
- off-road package
- customizable lcd productivity dash screen
- power-sliding rear window with defrost (courtesy of 2010)
- telescoping wheel
- integrated key fob
- factory remote start
- for the FX4 – black surround heads and tails, body colored handles, new grille, wheels, non-chrome running boards
- spray-in bedliner
- 110v inverter in the center console
- perimeter alarm
- auto up/down windows
- SuperCrew Raptor
This was substantial.
Now look from today to the 2018 MY we should get:
- Raptor
- new 10 speed tranny
- new 3.5 EcoBoost
- probably an updated 5L
- probably a new diesel
- an updated front end (grilles, maybe new headlights, maybe slight changes to the hood/bumper)
- maybe some interior changes, etc.
That's just as much or more than the 2011 major update. Don't feel bad. You got the glory and all of the attention by having one of the first new 2015 F-150s. But by buying first year you miss out on the updates that soon follow. This happens to every new truck and it will keep on happening so don't worry about your truck, it will still be fine.

Which happens from time to time. Chevy did a big refresh of their engines several times over the last 15 or so years.
And adding a few bells and whistles to the interior hardly constitutes a major upgrade.
You were REALLY reaching for things to post...
It would be like if in 1992 they were touting "new refrigerant" when they replaced R12
Guess we will see. But from what I hear, if they are forcing the auto-shutdown at idle bull****, you all can have the new trucks...
