Backup Camera Install- 2015 F-150 XLT 300A

I picked up my brand new 2015 F150 XLT SCab a couple of weeks ago. I only have the 300A package which does not include a backup camera. After driving it for a couple of weeks the only thing I am regretting not having on the truck is the backup camera. I have looked online and see that I can order the tailgate handle that integrates with the 4" sync screen but potentially requires some light wiring, drilling and some dis-assembly. However, the truck came with the backup camera wiring dust cover and I see a wiring harness coming out the back of the bed and into the tailgate. Does this mean that the backup camera wiring harness is already installed and all I have to do is purchase the new tailgate handle and plug and play? Do all 2015 F150's come with the backup camera wiring pre-installed?

Any update? Can you verify that's a camera prewire and not just the tailgate locking mechanism wiring? If this is the case, then a factory camera would be my route rather than an aftermarket unit that I've found.

I talked to a couple backup camera installers and they both said that they would need to install their own wiring harness but would be able to install the factory tailgate latch backup camera and integrate it to the 4" sync screen on the dashboard center stack. I was given a quote of $1000 installed which I think is a ripoff. I honestly think the existing wiring harness going into the tailgate is just for the backup camera install because if I follow it under the truck it looks like it is integrated with the reverse light wiring which is normal for backup cameras. I almost want to try and order a factory tailgate and try it.

There shouldn't be any other reason for wires leading into the tailgate.

You might check procedures to access the rear of the display screen. If you can get there, you might check wires to see if they match factory loom for camera.

I will look into that as well as opening up the panel on the inside of the tailgate to see what exactly what the wiring is connected to. My guess is nothing. I think a lot of manufacturers are automatically wiring all vehicles for backup cameras since the goverent is requiring them by 2017 or something.

If you have an electric locking tailgate, you could have wiring going in there for that. Check the wire colors and compare to one with a camera.

I'm curious too. Wish I had this, plus the backup sensors. I know that would be an expensive retrofit. I too have the 300A package.

Back up Camera F150 XLt

I haave an 2012 F150 Scab. I went to camera-source.com. Talked to tech support and got the emblem and hook up harness from them. The full vehicle harness was installed on my truck. All I had to do was connect cable behind dash to my new Nav Unit/Stereo. I installed a Kenwood DNN990HD unit and it works great. Had all parts I needed. I also have a front vision Infra Red camera
installed in Grille guard. I got it and cable from camera-source. Their web site has prices and good description.

Had backup camera installed today

I registered just now to help anyone else out with this issue, and to learn a lot myself.
My truck is a 2015 XLT 4x4 crew cab, 3.5 ecoboost, and I LOVE it.
I bought is used and got a great deal, but it did not have a backup camera installed. That was about the only thing I really wanted.
I found exactly one that would be the same as factory.
It is from Camera Source and is for the 4.2" screen.
Part Number SKU:15FTRH-0-42, which includes the tailgate handle with lens, all the wiring and the interface module to make it work without a trip to the dealer. Cost is still listed at 578.00 for the kit.
I installed the new tailgate handle and ran the wire up to and into the cab and had a great outfit here take apart the dash and make the connections. Cost was $94.00 to have it hooked up, so not too bad.
The camera works great. It has the green/orange/red lines for distance but does not have a center line. And because the 4.2" screen is not a touch screen the zoom feature does not work (I figured it wouldn't).
But it is great to have and was well worth the money.
The truck WAS NOT pre wired for this, the cable going into my tailgate was for the locking tailgate only.
I hope this helps anyone with the same setup.

I went through this , disconnect plug going to tailgate, if you only have 2 wires in the 12 pin connector is NOT wired for backup camera, If the connector has 6 or 7 wires, I can't remember how many, it is wired for backup camera. Replacing the harness with backup wired is not that tough, it replaces rear harness, mid point by spare tires to both tail lights, the back up camera harness also has connectors for LED bed lights, However if you install LEDs, the dealer will have to reset IDS. hope this helps.

So if I replaced the harness with one that was backup wired, as Wade suggested, what else would I need to do to get the camera to work? Would I need an interface module? Would I need to run a wire to the display as well? I've seen the kits online, but was hoping for an easier solution than having to drill and take the dash apart. Thanks.

I bought my 2015 XLT earlier this year, used. I want to add a backup camera and I also have the backup camera wiring dust cover in the glovebox and there is also a matching connector coming off the harness by the spare tire. Could this be for the tailgate camera harness to plug into the body harness?

I was surprised when I ordered my 2016 XL that a backup camera was one of the options.
