Anybody please?....

2015 F150 XLT Sport 5.0. Found out in the back below the tailgate...2 holes? Missing rivets? Any purpose to these? Can anyone chime in and tell me if they also have these 2 holes below the tailgate...below where the flexfuel badge is located? Thank y'all for your replies in advance.

Yes, mine has them also, they look to be threaded. Also have hole in center of the tailgate, and two hole on each side of the rear of the bed. Those holes are for the mounting of the factory bed extender.

It looks like there's a rivnut installed in the hole. Looks like provisions for an option you didn't get. If you are to look carefully there are places like this all over the truck. The parts are designed to accommodate all possible options. If the option isn't used the provisions just stay there doing nothing.

Don't the factory bed extenders mount to the side of the bed, not where the holes are?

^^^This...All the trucks have them. There is a part that goes there, but only if you have the tailgate step.

Thanks for deciphering this for me. I took it to my local dealer and they did not know what these holes were for. Nonetheless, they came up with a great idea to plug them. They plugged the holes with the plastic black rivets that they use for certain body panles. They fit and look decent. Better than leaving them without them.

I think DearbornDerek's right. It looks like those holes are for a sort of reinforced hinge if you have the tailgate step. Mine does.
