Had a 13-Ordered a 15- Got a
Had a 13 Lariat ecoboost, some of you may remember, lots of problems, new motor , very poor mileage , front end shudder, etc.. Got really tired of this truck went to our dealer and ordered a new 2015 F150 Lariat 4x4 FX4 went through the complete option lists to order and ordered everything we wanted, now the wait. In the meantime we went up to our mountain home and ran into a friend that we have not seen in a few yrs, and low and behold he was driving a 15 5.0 4x4. Of coarse I had several, many a questions for him. Hows it pull/tow? what kind of mileage ? etc.. His answer shocked and disappointed me. He pulls a trailer similar to ours, ours is a 24 foot toyhauler that's 5200 lbs empty. He did say it pulled real good until he hit the hills ( our hills are 6-12 % grades) he said it does it , but wished he had more power. When it came to mileage he said 8-10 towing and around 18 highway, I could live with that since our eco did 3-4 towing and at best 14 highway, but then he added that he had to add air bags for the weight of his trailer. Now i'm stumped our 13 held up our trailer very well , so on Monday morning its off to the dealer. Explained what we found out , so the salesman and manager headed to the comp and phone to give me an answer. They found that our 13 had a max tow pkg , which is different springs , rearend , etc.. Now for the 15 , we went through the entire option lists again and no max tow pkg, so the went in to build a 15 eco and there it was. So,they figured that a 15 4x4 fx4 automatically came with it. After more research, nope it did not. At this point the wife and I aren't to happy , $54,000 dollar truck that's not going to do what we want. After talking with the truck sales manager he let us out of our order. Then the next thing was, 2 hours later we left with a new F250 Lariat 4x4 6.7 Diesel. Don't hate me,we really love the new f150, but if its not going to do what we want? So, after putting a few miles on the new f250 we took a short trip with our 24 foot toyhauler we were thrilled with the mileage , 14-14.5 mpg.. Our highway mileage was 21-22 mpg and for what little city driving we do is around 16 mpg. Needless to say we are very pleased with the truck , mileage , and towing power. I would like to thank those posters that were trying to help us with our 13 eco problems, this is a great forum and a lot of very knowledgeable people. I'm not going far I still have our 06 5.4 4x4. And to add a final note, the dealer called after a couple weeks to see how we were doing with our f250 , and in the conversation ,they found that you can get a max tow pkg with the 15 5.0 but you have to get 3:73 gears first then the max tow showed up. Kind of screwy huh, but that's ok, I think the 250 is going to serve our purpose much better. Thanks all

Not gonna hate you. At least you made the decision BEFORE you took the truck unlike so many on this forum who buy a $50k truck and then find out later its not exactly what they could or should have ordered and then complain about it.

Hell, I restore cars and build hotrods, and you want paragraphs. I'm lucky just to post something, still haven't figured out posting a picture. You be the writer, I'll lay on a paint job, custom build a frame and hot rod, I have more show awards then we have room for. You write about em, i'll build em. LOL

That was a very smart move. Nothing beats a turbodiesel towing in the mountains.
Several years ago, I was heading up Trout Creek Pass in Colorado - it's a pretty steep but straight climb and I was at about the 9000 foot marker. I had no load at all, was in 4th flat on the floor doing 70 and slowing down when a diesel Dodge blew by me like I was standing still. He was towing a long 3 axle flatbed with a Ford Escape strapped down on it. He had to be doing at least 90.

Oh, and it can be a luxury car when you need it to be as well.
Yeah, pretty much useless.
