Won't start
Have a 2011 f150 Xl with the 3.7ltr engine. Cranks over good but will not start, looking for ideas on where to look for a solution. It did Sputter on cold starts a few times in the last week and would start fine the rest of the day. Fuse on # 27 for fuel pump relay is good. Suggestions?

Fuel pump? Check pressure. Also try cranking while someone else takes a rubber mallet to the gas tank. Had a Chevy with a bad fuel pump. Wouldn't start. Called tow truck. Driver beat on tank while I cranked it. Ran fine. Bad spot on pump motor, jarring made it move just enough. Replaced pump asm.

The only way to test fuel pressure is with an OBD2 scanner.
Check for spark with an inline spark tester. Check for injector pulses with noid lights. |
Ok - did some simple checks and found that I can hear the fuel pump turn on and can smell some gas coming out exhaust. what can cause all coil packs not to fire?

Spray a little starter fluid into the intake and try to start it. If it starts, it's a fuel problem. If it doesn't, it's probably an ignition problem. Do what glc says.

A non-PATS key might, but I think it shuts off the fuel pump.
I had the fuse issue on my '13, the fuse looked perfect but crumbled when I took it out. Did you check ALL the fuses? |
