2010 F150 crank/no start and stalling
 

A few months ago I experienced my first issue with my 2010 f150 4x4 5.4l. I've checked throughout the forums but with no answers yet.

It stalled into the driveway and would never start. Once we figured out it was the fuel pump, I got it replaced and it started right up and had no issues for about 2 months.

Starting a few days ago, the truck would only start on the 2nd crank, never the first (I didnt think much of it as I've had many f150s before and this was common) however, yesterday the truck stalled on me 10 times on a 5 mile trip. It would not recognize any throttle I gave and would "choke" out. It would then start right up on first crank. This only happened when I was at a stop and going to accelerate.

I've replaced the #27 fuse, which was not blown, checked the purge valve, which was working properly, and dumped 10 gallons of premium and added seafoam to it but it still continues to stall, any ideas?

BTW, I cannot get it to stall in the driveway, only while it's on the road. No idle issues, no codes. 158k miles

Have you checked the FPDM?

Just installed it, after a few cold starts with the new driver module installed, it still takes it a couple cranks to start and stalled once. So doubtful. This weekend project will be to remove the bed and look at the fuel pump and possibly replace again (lifetime warranty).

Shotgunning can get expensive.

By any chance is that fuel pump with the "lifetime warranty" an /////AutoZone offering?

If you turn the key to on and wait for a few seconds, then turn it to start, does it start quickly?

Nope. But I do hear the Fuel Pump when I do so. Also, We checked up at the fuel rail while we turned it to on, there is good fuel pressure.

UPDATE:

Over the weekend, with the help of some friends, cleaned the throttle body, replaced the MAF, made sure fuel pressure is good, and was running almost empty, so filled up with a full tank of non-ethonal and seafom.

None of which worked, except for when I fueled up. I noticed it before, but it never stalls on a full or almost full tank of gas. Still takes forever to start though.

Theory is maybe there is some dirt or something in the tank that only becomes an issue when little fuel is there to mix it up? Also could make the starting a little harder since the dirt would settle at the bottom of the tank where the pump pulls? Just a theory... but all I can come up with.

After this tank of gas is near empty i'll try to pull the tank and flush it, and will keep this post updated

If you are going to pull the tank, replace the internal fuel filter.

Routinely, regularly running on empty is a GOOD way to shorten the life of the fuel pump, gum-up the fuel system, lean-out the air-fuel ratio, etc., etc., etc. and in general NOT a good practice.

You said you checked the fuel pressure. What was the fuel pressure. It surely sounds like low fuel pressure could be the problem.

In looking at the Ford Parts Catalog, they are showing a fuel filter on that truck that mounts to the frame rail just about where the drivers seat is at. Have you looked for it and if it has one, have you replaced it? A mostly clogged fuel filter will cause your exact problems. And since I'm posting, I'd also suggest looking for the ECM unit and give it a good sniff with the nose. If it smells burnt, there's yer problem.
Just for a FWIW, seafoam is nothing but a light oil, rubbing alcohol, and kerosene. None of it is doing you any favors except making the wallet lighter. If you think a chemical is needed for the injection system, you're looking at the only one approved by ALL auto makers in the USA and that's Techron. It's a combination of Stoddard solvent and PEA, both being the absolute best at cleaning an injection system. So skip the seacrap.
