Rusted hitch normal?

I'm in the market for a used truck. I came across a 2011 but what caught my eye was the tow hitch rust (see pic). The truck has been registered in Louisiana and Florida. Is this normal?

Probably drove it through the salt belt.

No big deal. A little bit of sand blasting or a needle scaler will clean that up. Then put a fresh coat or two of gloss black Rustoleum.

What does the rest of the under carriage look like?

If that's just the hitch... Well.. dunno..

I live in WA State and it's WET here, but my 13 F150 does not look like that...

Good luck!

Truck is 100 miles away and there are no pictures of the underside . It has 85,000 miles on the clock.
4x2 lariat, 5.0l, $15k.

My brother has a 2010 and his hitch looks just like that. The rest of the truck is pristine. He does use his hitch several times a week.

I have a 2002 and my hitch looks almost new, very little rust. We live 2 miles apart and experience identical weather and road conditions.

We have wondered many times about the difference in the hitches. Only difference is mine is only used a few times per year.

I think it is normal. The hitch will turn rust colored very quickly in my experience and I've owned 2 f150s for a total of 14 years. The part that rusts the quickest is the rear differential cover.
