Need to replace 5.0 V8 in my 2014 F150 XL, engine compatibility with 2015-2019?
Just got the bad news after getting a misfire code on cylinder 8, we ran a compression test and cylinder 8 failed compression test, instead of sinking money in my current 5.0 V8 engine with 160K miles I am planning to swap out with a low mileage used engine. After reading a lot of posts about valve and cylinder issues on 2011-2014 engines I am wanting to swap out with a newer 2015-2017 engine with 50-60k miles, but not sure if there are any compatibility issues installing the newer engines in my 2014 XL? Any advice you can share on compatibility and best year of production for most reliable 5.0 V8 engines is greatly appreciated.

Your best bet would be sticking to 11-14 F150 5.0
You may look at doing the coolant cross pipe mod from MMR that should help with heat management on the back cylinders.

IMHO, one of the things to consider and research is, if you swap to the newer engine, when the vehicle is sold (or if you have inspections in your state) you will most likely be required to go to a federal referee station to determine if the swap was "appropriate" and you most likely have to meet the newer engine 's smog control/testing requirements.

Depends on where the OP lives.
VERY hard to do in CA. But in some states where emissions isn't required, then no problem.
A buddy of mine modded a car, and no way it would ever pass NY emissions. (Went from computer controlled to 4 barrel carb). He had to utilize South Carolina as a means to register it. Since they don't require emissions inspections. It was easier to do that, than to battle New Yorkistan's laws.
I agree with yearly safety inspections, but I think after the vehicle is 5 years old or has 100k miles, emissions should no longer be required.

I remember back when I was stationed out in crazyfornia, the laws were so restrictive on engine swaps it was almost not worth trying. For instance, you could swap in a newer engine into your vehicle, but not an older one. It had to be at least the same year as the car or truck it was going into. You couldn't put a 2011 coyote in say a 2014 truck. Another one was the engine you were installing had to have been available from the factory in that vehicle or a similar one. You could not install a coyote into a 2002 ranger because they never had a factory V8 option, but you could install a coyote into say a 2002-2010 explorer because they had an optional V8
