2010 Screw Oil drain plug shape

My brother has a 2010 Screw, 4x4, Lariat, 5.4V8 It has close to 190K on the odometer. He was changing the oil yesterday and noticed the oil drain plug was a strange shape. I didn't see it, but he said the end protruding into the oil pan looked as if something had been grinding on it. It was rounded off and shorter on one side than the other. Next time he changes oil he will try to remember to get a picture of it. He bought the truck with170K on it so he has changed the oil a few times since he's owned it and swears he's never noticed it before. He was preoccupied today with removing his factory lug nuts as he rotated his tires. He finally ended up buying an aftermarket set that won't swell and peel.

Any ideas what may have happened to it to the oil drain plug?

Nope,it's on the inside of the oil plug, facing the bottom of the crank, not the head side.

Obviously somebody ground away on the plug for some reason. Maybe it was too long or something. Not something I would worry about if it doesn't leak and is easy to remove and install.

According to my brother, it works fine, no leaks, just curious as to why.

I will badger my brother to take a picture of it the next time he changes oil.

Thanks !

Tell him to buy a new one, so he has it to swap out next oil change. I swapped mine out for a Fumoto valve, it's pretty nice.

I have a 2010 with the same engine and I've never noticed anything odd about the oil plug in it. FWIW.

Thanks, it doesn't seem to be a problem, just a curiosity. if yours appears normal, then this one has either been modified or was shaped wrong from the factory. There doesn't seem to be a reason for the shape, so I'll go with factory error.
