ticking sound in engine

(2011 F-150 XLT 5.0 4x4)at 30,000 miles I developed a ticking sound in my engine. It sounds like a lifter tapping. I took it to the dealer and he FIRST tried to say I wasn't changing the oil often...which was total BS..i use full synthetic and change at REGULAR OIL intervals, and have every receipt...so I am MORE than covered.

the dealer told me then that it was a Fuel Injector, and it wasn't covered by the warranty... and he left it as is and charged me for a service call.

the trucks runs good... and now with 67,000 miles the tapping is still there.

I am thinking of going back to the dealer and telling him to replace JUST the ONE injector that's noisey, and see what happens...if the tapping is there , then its NOT the injector

so my question here:

Are Injectors suseptable to sticking and making noises like a lifter tapping?

and if so...can you replace just one, or do they need to be in SETS?

thanks

Hey Bob;

Injectors are indeed on the noisy side.

But , hang on - it may NOT be yer injectors- this is not an unknown issue:

Over on F150Forum - there are countless threads/posts on this noise concern; here's just a couple:

thanks for the quick reply...on my motor...it really seems like JUST one thing is making noise... not like all the injectors are making noise.

or it still might be a lifter...

Ticking has gotten worse

My 2011 F150 5.0 has had intermittent ticking since I purchased it. My extended service plan ran out at 119,000 miles. Tensioner was replaced; still ticked. Lash adjusters checked; all good still ticked. Now 1,000 miles out of warranty and the tick has gotten very loud. Silent when cold but loud when warmed up in idle. Silent when in gear or driving. Come to find out the rod bearings are shot. Full synthetic motorcraft oil and filter done at dealership since truck was brand new within specified intervals. I'm very disappointed with my 5.0. I never had any problems with my 5.4 Triton. Looking at serious $$$ to replace engine 1,000 miles out of warranty.

Rod bearings don't make noises under they are about ready to destruct the engine. So the tick that the truck had from the beginning wasn't the rod bearing.
