Is a '14 4x4 5.0 a reliable truck
 

Thinking about parting with my '99 4x4 5.4 2v, not sure why, it's been a great truck and still looks good after all these years and less than 150K on the odometer. Would really like something a little newer though. Really trying to get a feel about the longevity of the newer trucks, not just mileage but how many years can you expect before pieces might start falling off. My style would be more for the V8 than the turbo 6 but I read somewhere that the gas mileage for a '14 5.0 is like 15 highway.... is that true? Heck my old '99 gets 18 highway! (giant step backward?) Any opinions?:confused:

No, 15 would be if you were running 90 mph into a head wind. I have averaged 19 mpg on my 2 wheel drive over 50,000 miles. Running 75 without significant wind, I average 20+ mpg. You will get a little less with the 4x4. If I could hold it to 65 mph, I could average 22 mph in the highway. Just can't go that slow.

I have a '14 with the 5.0, 4WD extended cab and get 18-21 on Hway. Better than any Ranger or Tacoma I ever owned.

Sometimes you can tell the reliability of a model or year but what you don't see. Before selling my '04 Lariat with over 290k I searched the big three f-150 forums and found very little with regards to '13's & '14's.

15 MPG? Um, I would have to fight to get that bad of mileage...

My '14 is a daily driver, 70 miles a day, city driving, country road, expressway, to freeway, then more city driving. I tend to be a little led footed and I average 18 driving the way I do.

I have experimented on the freeway at 65-68 I get 21 and at 70ish I get 20..

I would definitely say, yes. Take it for what it's worth, I not only use Forums when researching reliability of a model, but I find that carcomplaints.com (no affiliation) picks up on most car/truck issues. You can look by model, then year and drill down on those years to find when issues where real and when (and if) handled by the manufacturers. At worst, it can point to common problems that may or may not be important to your specific needs.
