Question 285/75r17 of 285/70r17?

Hey guys I need some help deciding on a tire size. My truck is a '14, 5.0, 4x4 with 3.55s. I'm adding Raptor wheels and looking at 285/75r17 and 285/70r17. My stock tires are 275/65r18, 32.1" tall and weigh about 51lbs each. The 285/75 are 33.9" tall and 63lbs each. The 285/70 are 32.8" tall and 57lbs each. I want a bigger tire but I don't want to loose a lot of power or mpg. I also don't want to regear my truck (did that with my '05 5.4 with 315s). Will the 285/75 be a big difference in power and mpg? I'm afraid the 285/70 isn't going to look much different than what I have now. Any experience or info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey, I was in the same spot. I ended up wanting to go with the 75 series tires for the added height. Unfortunately I'm up in Canuckistan and they didn't have that size available yet in the tire I wanted. I ended up going with the 285/70/17 and am quite happy. Not too much of a knock on mpg's and no real difference in power (you can notice it a bit, but pretty comparable to the 20's and 275's I had on previously).

I'm running a 2" level on the front and the rear sits almost an inch higher than stock with the addition of the AAL.

Here's what it looks like. I don't think the tires look too small.

Thanks, that helps! I am actually adding those Raptor wheels to my truck and those are the exact tires I am considering. A benefit of the 285/70 is the Nitto Ridgegrappler has a C rated tire. Most of the aggressive ATs in 285/75 are all E rated tires. This is my truck I'm adding the Raptor wheels to. I have added tint and a low profile matte black tool box since this photo.
Thanks again. I'm probably going with the 70s in the ridge grapplers. BTW, your truck looks good!

I went with the C rated version as it made the most sense for what I use the truck for. So far it's been an awesome tire.

Your truck will look great with that wheel/tire combo.

Got the tires and wheels installed over the weekend. The wheels didn't come with the SVT center caps so those and a set of black lug nuts are on order. I am really happy with the setup and glad I didn't go with the larger size. Sure they would have looked a little better but now I get to keep my MPG.

Thanks! I am happy with the Ridge Grapplers in 285/70R17. No noticeable loss in power and haven't seemed to loose any MPG.

285/70’s

Your thread helped out a lot on me deciding what size tire to go with. Appreciate the comments and photos. 2011 F-150 with Fox 2.0 coils and powder coated raptor wheels (Gloss Black).

Before mods. Still not sold on the steps I replaced the chrome ones with.
