2010 Ford F-150 Lariat 5.4, what to look for before taking it to a mechanic?

I am looking into buying a used 2010 F150 5.4, it basically has 180k miles. Looks very clean. Don't know about the maintenance records. I have had a 99 Ranger that I've had and has been good to me for about 15 years and looking into getting something a little bigger. That being said I don't know much about the 5.4 off this year nor any other possible problems to look for in this type of truck and mileage. Went to test drive it, don't know much about cars but felt smooth to drive in my opinion. List of things I should consider and inspect when looking at these trucks before wasting my time and taking it to a mechanic?

The 3 valve 5.4 has issues with the variable cam timing system. I wouldn't buy one with that many miles on it unless you are prepared to spend $2500 on it. This one may be fine now, it may go sour at any time. I'd recommend you look for a 2011 or newer with a 5.0.
