Truck shuts off while driving

I have an 2010 F150 FX4 5.4L and it will shut off intermittently while driving. The gauges will bounce and there is a buzzing noise. I have to give it a few minutes and then I can start it back up. It will go days then it happens again. I almost had 2 accidents because the truck will shut off and then stop immediately and I am running about 45 MPH, then it come to a complete stop and I have to make sure that everyone behind me knows that I have stopped. Does anyone know what could cause the truck to shut off and stop immediately instead of coasting.

Do you have a complete loss of battery power when this occurs? I think I would clean the battery terminals.

No, I don't lose any preset radio stations. I have cleaned the battery terminals and made sure they were tight. Loss of battery would not make the truck stop instantly would it?

Yes. With all the electronic systems, it's not like the old days where you could lift a battery terminal and run off just the alternator. I'd suspect a 7 year old OEM battery - go get it load tested.

Thanks for the info. I will have the battery tested and get new one.

I recently had a battery fail in my 85 Kawasaki ZN700 motorcycle. It always appeared to be very strong with the starter spinning the engine very fast. One day it wouldn't do anything. I checked the voltage of the battery and it checked 12.6 volts which made me think the battery was good and I had another electrical problem. I took the battery to Autozone for testing and it would not support a load at all. I bought a new one and the bike started instantly.

Ford said they are not able to duplicate the issue, and they tested the battery which is still good. The alternator is also in good condition. I will get it back tomorrow and see if it still has the issue. Has anyone else had this same issue and if so what was the fix?

I'm the kind of person who would walk into the service manager, drop the broken terminal on his desk and ask him why his tech didn't see this in the "check". After a minute or two of him stumbling around for an answer, I'd demand to get my money refunded for any work they have done.

Congratulations on finding the problem and fixing it! And also thanks for letting us know!
