stock tires too soft?
Hey all.
so I have 25000 on my 2013 f150 ecoboost now. I am not a heavy pedal user, but I have noticed my tires are getting very close to the wear bars.
when I accelerate from a stop, normally (no heavy pedal), I see the track of my tires in the rear view mirror and side mirrors. so I am leaving excess rubber of course.
anyone else notice this? are the stock tires just cheap crap to get you rolling? I'm used to load class E and I can't find a load class on the stockers.
I've always ran all terrain "E" and the f150 has a stock goodyear wrangler highway tire on it which has nearly stranded me in the snow more than once.
so just wondering... how are the stock tires holding up on yours?
Thanks

In my experience (in all kinds of cars and trucks) OEM tires are usually soft and don't last very long. I'm not sure if the manufactures use softer tires for better mileage or better traction or just because they're cheaper or some other reason.
What's the thread wear rating on your OEM tires. Tire salesmen poo-poo those ratings but I've usually found them to be a good indicator of how much life you'll get out of tires.

I just put a set of Hankook on my 2013 and I love 'em. The reason I did it was while driving the gravel roads up here in Idaho I punched a hole in 3 of them over the course of just two years. I finally had enough. The stock tires are a 4 ply and make an F150 ride like a Lincoln but they are no good off a paved road.

What I can't figure out is my truck (purchased new) with the MAX tow package came with "P" tires - doesn't make sense to me....

hahaha that made me laugh. "better MPG."
so replacing the tires will most likely cost more gas. figures.
however, I ran 2 sets of cooper AT3 on my 2004 with 150,000 miles that I traded off for this 2013 and my MPG went up running those. and they were oversized. go figure!
