4x4 decal??
I've wondered how to tell the difference of engine in the newer trucks .. I've noticed that my 4x4 decal with the 6.2 is gold and on a co workers he has a 5.0 lariat and his decal is grey.. I know on the chevy trucks they all had different exhaust placement out the rear . Anyone know something I don't ???

Pretty sure decal color it depends on the color of the truck and/or the trim level. The 2013-14 bed decals are different from the 2012s
I can tell the 5.4 apart from the others by listening to it idle. The EB obviously has the badge on the door and sounds different. Side by side you can tell the 6.2 and 5.0 apart by how they sound at idle, but that's all I got. The only reason I know that is cause I work at a dealership and have deliberately listened for the differences from motor to motor. No way I know of to visually tell a 3.7 from a 5.0 from a 6.2. If there is one, I'd like to know it.

It is a bit harder to tell since they stopped putting engine badges on the trucks (except the Ecoboost, of course). I don't know if decal color is associated with the engine (I always thought it depended on the color, trim, and maybe even interior color), but I do know a few ways to discern between the 3.7 and the 5.0. For example, if you see a supercrew 4x4 without the Ecoboost badge, it's most likely a 5.0. The 3.7L is available in a crew cab, but only in 2wd. Add the 4x4 to it and you're upgraded to a 5.0. You can still get the 3.7 4x4 in supercab and regular cab models. Also, you won't find a 3.7 in a Lariat trim or above. I'm willing to bet the majority of non-Ecoboost crew cabs are the 5.0 rather than the 6.2. Perhaps towing mirrors could be an indicator as well? The 6.2 still has the hydraulic power steering, but that doesn't do you any good from the outside.
So I just read everything I typed and realized I have been no help at all, and now I'm just as uncertain as you

In states that require front license plates you can tell an Ecoboost from a V8 by the placement of the front plate. Ecoboost is always offset to the drivers side of the front bumper vs. centered on the V8. Not sure what sets the 5.0 vs 6.2 apart though... Maybe the trucks sitting at the gas pump are 6.2 and 5.0 trucks drive by smiling and glad they didn't get the 6.2? LOL. J/K :-)
