2009 F150 FX4 question

Hey everyone, I'm new to this section. I have a 2002 Supercrew 2wd, but I have been looking for a newer one for a while now. I found one today that had a rebuilt/salvage title. It's a 2009 with 73,000 miles. The only thing wrong is that the back of the drivers seat is no more. It had a small fire in it. So the seat would need to be replaced. They're asking $18,000 for it. It's a supercrew, FX4 black leather, power everything, new tires, etc. Looks new on the outside. What do you guys think? Let me know. Thanks!

Here's the link to it

seems kinda high to me I paid 16 for my 09 last year they put 4 new tires and a cover on it. Salvage title also kills value since it means it was totaled once already so your gonna need gap insurance more money out of your pocket. I would make em start around 12 or keep looking.

I wouldn't touch that truck at any price. Salvage titles are major deal killers.

Alright, fair enough. I knew salvage titles are deal killers, but I don't see how the seat caused an insurance company to "total" a truck that's barely even 5 years old

Run away fast! Way overpriced. Our 78 Volarie wagon had a small fire in it in the mid 80's and it always smelled like smoke inside.

I would offer $8500, and be prepared to walk away. The entire fabric interior (headliner, carpet etc) will need to be changed, and the rest will need a really good steam cleaning. Why do you think it is listed as salvage - the Ins Co. didn't want to touch it. If you get the parts and do the work yourself you will end up with a nice truck, but you will have to run it till it pukes as you will never be able to sell it for much with the branded title. Document every step and it will help with possible resale. If you can get it cheap it just might be a nice winter project.

If you decide to do it keep us posted so we can see the progress!!

Alright thanks guys. I will. Talked to them today. They could work on the price a little bit, but not a lot. I can get a headliner and carpet installed for $450 and a new seat on eBay for $400. Or two new front seats for $800. I've always wanted a truck like this, but they're too damn expensive

that thing is going to reek of smoke smell. We had a vehicle burn up in our high bay at work and the whole place smelled for weeks, even after having a professional crew of about 50 people clean for 5 days.

Like others said, expect to have to replace all the interior.
If you shop around various junkyards you might be able to do it fairly cheap.

But even then, the smell might be in the AC system and the dash and... ... ...

It will always have a faint smoke smell I bet.

And with a salvage title your resale is going to be low if you ever sell after all that work.

Tell them you will give them $10K if the rebuild the entire interior first.

plus - check various prices online... a quick check on a 2009 FX4 with those miles and they say the value is $17,986 for "average condition" (on edmunds)

Probably not all the right options... but thats for a clean title, not a salvage title with fire damage...

That dealership is crazy nuts to want $18K

How do you know that's the reason for the salvage title? I'd seriously consider that it was "totaled" previously for some other reason - and you probably don't EVEN want to go there. You may very well be looking at a Hurricane Sandy truck.

I would offer $8500, and be prepared to walk away.
Maybe - and that's only if you can pay CASH for the truck, be willing to drive it with no collision or comprehensive insurance, and be willing to junk it when you are done with it. Good luck finding financing and insurance - banks and insurance companies don't want to TOUCH salvage titles.

Have you seen a carfax on the truck? Ask for one.

Food for thought, if someone had a truck that had chronic problems, that was out of warranty, and they could get more cash for it as a write-off than in a private sale.........

work on the price a little really it is a junkyard dog and they want full retail. Have you talked to a insurance company about covering it cause they don't like paying for the same truck twice. Are they offering to finance it for you as well? I was being generous at 12k. My bet is it was a flood truck that was repaired and then the wiring in the seat shorted out and burned up the seat. I worked in a body shop for years and drove many salvage title vehicles all on PL PD no one would insure them. But back then we could buy them from the insurance companies for a few hundred bucks. Personally if they won't come way down and I mean almost half of what they are asking let them find someone dumber to buy it.
