Sounds like there's a duck in my engine compartment

I just bought a 2011 F150 Supercrew XLT and i noticed a noise that sounds like there's a duck in my engine compartment. i only notice it when idling because it's not very loud, whether the A/C is on or not doesn't change it, and it doesn't increase in frequency or loudness in relation to the truck's speed/RPM's. I took it to the dealer and he said he's never heard it before and doesn't have a clue what it could be. it's the weirdest thing to hear your engine quack at you when you're idling. it also doesn't affect performance in any way that i can discern. thoughts?

can you upload a video of it?

My thought would be hoping it was Scrooge McDuck under there and maybe he'll drop some of his spare change.............

Also, you should post what engine you have in that 'quacker box'.

Are you sure it ISN'T a duck?

;)

Until a real answer comes along have a look at what I mean here... (your question immediately recalled seeing this video :) )

As for a real answer, I'd guess some airflow piece is acting like a reed and has created a duck call. Give Duck Dynasty a call, maybe they'll put you on the show ;) Sorry, but this story has got me grinning, I think everyone wants to hear it if you can record it :)

EDIT: It might be possible to get a sound like that from a rubbing issue too without needing air movement.

haha funny funny. i would upload a video if i knew how. i've got the 5.0 V8. and yes, of course i know how ridiculous this issue is, if it's even a real issue. i'll check the air filter.

If you know how to upload a video to YouTube, that's all you need to do. Then hit Share and copy the link, paste it.

I hope you didn't take my levity the wrong way :) (it is so hard to emote on forums, even with the emoticons)

It is not ridiculous at all, odd definitely, and absolutely an issue, it sounds annoying on a couple levels... but sometimes all you can do is laugh ;) Not laughing at you, but with you :)

well no worries about the jokes, i'd be an idiot if i didn't expect jokes about a post like this and i've got a great sense of humor anyways. i never got around to posting a video though sorry. it got more frequent and i took it back to the dealer anyways becuase of some other issues, like sudden los of power steering, engine shuddering(thought it was going to stall) and flashing electronics. good thing i bought a 28,000$ truck with 28000 miles! FML

well the quaking sound was fixed with a replacement of the water pump and it's hose, and the sudden loss of power/jacked up electronics was due to a wire in the wiring harness being ground to the engine. so the entire wiring harness had to be replaced.

Glad they were able to get you fixed up. Now that you mentioned it, I have an old Camaro with a fuel pump that makes a similar sound. Not quite a duck, but close. Sorry I didn't think of it sooner.

Glad to hear it's fixed.
