Ditched the Pirelli's - Firestone Destination A/T's

Ditched the Pirelli's, couldn't take the wet & snow performance any longer. Went with the FIrestone Destination A/T's in the same size. Picked these tires for the A/T tread pattern, and because it is about the ONLY other option in OWL for our size (I know a lot of ppl hate the OWL, but I prefer them).

Anyway, just wanted to put some pictures out here for others, in case others are considering a change. Always helps if you can find pictures of this stuff before you buy. My only real complaint so far is I wish the OWL font was a little larger, not sure why they shrunk it down so much from the pictures of this tire they have on their website...

Can't wait for the next snow to see if they are a big improvement!

A friend of mine has an FX4 with the Pirelli's and he doesn't like them. He say their traction is horrible.

They are absolutely worthless in any snow in 2WD. They were useable in 4WD but not ideal. They weren't teh best on wet pavement in my opinion either. Worth the upgrade to me. I think Ford should ditch the Pirelli's.

The pirellis really are absolute garbage in winter driving conditions-nice move going away from them. Your new tires look good, and I will side with you in liking OWL all terrains. For me personally, I associate OWL with aggressive off road tires and I think they look good on trucks. Congrats on the new tires!

Looks Great! Good choice!

I had the Firestone Ats on my Expd. I was pretty happy with them, other than the mileage, probably due to being P metrics, instaed of Lts. OVerall performance was quite good.

I did the same thing before Christmas. The Firestones are FAR SUPERIOR in the wet and in the snow. I can even glance out the side window at speed without the truck heading for the shoulder of the road.

The only thing I'm not really comfortable with is that, compared to the BFG All Terrain KO tires I was used to, the Firestones don't seem to have a lot of tread depth. Maybe its just my old eyes.

I know that you will find the Firestones a vast improvement over the Pirrellis.

Take Care

Good to hear, thank you. I look forward to the next snow here to try them out.

Thanks to others for the compliments, I really like them so far.

I found out in training today that we are ditching the Pirelli's in favor of Bridgestones. Too many complaints both from customers as well as Ford employees themselves that the Pirelli tires just weren't up to snuff.

Thats good to hear, I'm glad Ford is paying attention and the numerous complaints arent going unheard. I cant remember a single person having something positive to say about those pirellis. They are REALLY bad tires(at least in this application anyway).

If Ford was paying attention to it's customers regarding the poor performance of the Scorpion ATR, why did it take from 2006 to 2013 for them to change? It has nothing to do with our satisfaction. It's all about the contractual agreements Ford made with the supplier and our friends the bean counters...

Only issue I had with the pirellis was flat spotting....I thought they were a pretty good tire although not the greatest....went everywhere with them on the truck....imo....

How much did the new shoes cost?

They were about $250 a tire installed including tax. I was able to get the pirelli's sold for $600, they had 5k on them. So it worked pretty well. Still loving the firestones. Make the truck look much more "truck" to me as well with the more aggressive tread pattern.

I wish they would go with these tires instead of the Bridgestones, but ditching the Pirelli's is a good move regardless.
