Well in my quest to rid my truck of chrome, i decided to try something else besides the hassle and expense of paint. i bought a roll of 3M vinyl after getting a tip that theres a shade that matches tuxedo black metallic well. I have also seen oxford white, tuxedo black and sterling gray vinyls that match amazingly..

First things first, clean off you bumpers with soap and water

Rub the bumpers down with rubbing alcohol on a microfiber cloth, making sure to remove all lint or any dirt particles.. they will show through if they're left on!

Start in the middle of the piece you are focusing on

As u can see, i didnt fully peel the white paper backing off.. it makes it easier to keep the vinyl from folding back on itself and really ticking you off!!!

start smoothing out the vinyl, working from the middle out wards to the edges.. stretch it if necessary

When you go to wrap the vinyl over the top of the bumper, you will need to heat it with a hair drier.. it will provide more than enough heat to stretch it, and just push it in between the crack of the bumper and painted valance.. i cut the vinyl in sections to do it piece by piece!

After stretching and tucking, it leeves a nice finished edge up top.

The same method will be used for the bottom. use a vinyl squeegee or credit card to tuck the vinyl into corners as tight as you can
Attachment 19559
After its all tucked, just run a sharp blade along the crack between the two bumpers and tuck again

Use the heat to heat up the fog light holes, and push along the edge with your finger.. its literally that easy. once you get the shape like in the picture below, cut the center out leaving 1/4" of an edge, and tuck the excess behind the bumper hole

not bad for 38$!! this is 3m G212 1080 vinyl.. available on ebay, or metro restyling.com. you can do the whole bumper, but i did mine this way because whats left of the chrome bumper will be covered in flat black, followed by the upper valance and the grill, then the hood to create a big stripe. hopefully someone feels inspired enough to try it out!

Looks good. I like how you left the middle and your plan sounds like it'll turn out real nice.

I used vinyl before to go over my tan 2 tone on my rockers

Do you have a link to the product? I'm down to get some but not trying to guess what color it looks like on my computer screen. My truck use tuxedo black.

I've also used 3M 1080 on my body areas, but I want to do the grille on mine as well — I've got the two-bar black textured plastic FX4 grille — has anyone wrapped that?

Hate to bump an old thread but has anybody done this with their grill? I have a chrome grill on my 2013 and I'd like to color match it. May eventually do my bumpers too. Not sure how easy the grill will be to do.
