2012's? Do they shutter, Leak and have Sync issues?

I have a 2012 coming early next week and wanted to see if any 2012 owners are having any of the common problems I have read about, the 3 brake light leads, Sync issues and most importantly the shutter, IC condensation, transmission problems and paint issues? I was wondering if they have been worked out especially since they put so many quality holds on most of the F150 since February. I just want a heads up for things I may need to look for and inspect when my truck comes in. I know the warranty will take care of these issues, but when you are at the bargaining table before you sign the papers, it may help to show your discomfort with issues that still haven't been corrected and look for some discounting of issues you may find.

Ya gotta manually set the F-stop on the F-150's shutter. (I'm still looking for the shutter release button, tho.)

I really don't know if they 'shudder' tho.

But I'll wager that the trucks displaying the problems you have mentioned are less than 1/2 of 1% of the trucks the FoMoCo manufactures.

My '10 XLT Scab 4x4 doesn't display any of those symptoms. 1pc aluminum drive shaft, Sync has been great, the paint job (Tuxedo Black/Silver Ingot) was damn near perfect and my tranny shifts smoothly without any added 'flashes'. They even painted the bottom of the doors, TB. Plus, all 4 door sills came with, without having to buy them aftermarket.

FoMoCo installed a new high brake light under warranty, resealed the Sirius antenna and replaced injector #8.

Oh I see you didn't get the rear view camera with your truck! I heard they had problems with the guidelines and zoom so I thought I would ask about the shutter!!! Just kidding! Thanks for the typo address but more so for your info! I am sure the issues aren't that common but I was concerned not that a problem can't happen, I know it is still a machine and things do break or have issues, what concerns me is that Ford hasn't or took a long time to come up with a fix! I am still not sure if the ShuDDer problem has been corrected or not and that is and should be a concern for anyone! As for the high brake light, you had yours replaced on your 2010 and I have read of people having the same problem with their 2011??? So if there was a problem with yours I wonder why they didn't correct it in the following year? That to me is interest on its own, if it is a defective part, then wouldn't everyone have that issue?? As for me, and for many others I am sure, I really don't want to have a mildew issue, I know they would have to replace the carpet but still I really don't like water coming in anywhere! It just happened to me on my Mustang GT, I now have read they had an issue with water coming in around the cabin filter, so now I have to fix it and replace the carpet since it is out of warranty. The other issue is my amp location, I planned on putting it behind the rear seats and they don't like water either! I am sure I will be happy with the truck, It's a Ford, but I just want the heads up!

You're asking an impossible to answer question. Obviously, you've been doing some reading and know about issues various other owners have had. Nobody on here can predict whether your truck will have some, all, or none of those issues that you are concerned about. Since you are aware of these issues, you can look for them when your truck is ready for delivery, and refuse to take delivery the truck if you are not satisfied. Good luck.

My 2012 FX4 Eco delivered Dec 30 has been flawless for 3K miles and 3 months. My 1,500 mile mileage is 18.2 but have been getting over 19 with the warmer weather. 50% city 50% highway. Holding it to 65 mph on Hwy.

I haven't had any problems to this point with my 2011.

The real question is, why are you buying a Ford if you think that it may have these kinds of problems?

mamonti Mar 26, 2012 07:56 AM

Thanks Guys, I guess some of you understand and some don't! I am getting ready to receive my truck this week and will be doing my inspection before I lay out over 40,000.00 for a truck! All I wanted to know is do the 2012's still have some of the problems the 10's and 11's did! If so then I would make sure I checked for these issues before signing the papers! I KNOW, nobody can tell the future, I KNOW it is a machine that will and can break down, I KNOW, these issues only happen to very few! BUT, for instance, Ford had an issue with a leaking 3rd Brake light in 2010, I read that they still had the issue in 2011! So I guess I wonder why is this still happening and why hasn't it been corrected in 2011? So since it wasn't I was wondering if any one that had a 2012 has had that issue? IF not then I can assume it has been fixed, and by the way, it may sound bad that Ford can't fix a leak in the roof for 2 years but is that truly the case? I am not saying I think the people who complained about it are liars, but let's say, late in 2010 (last production run) they received faulty 3rd brake light parts and it went un-noticed, they continued to use them of course in the first production run on the 2011's, so could it be once they got the complaint and found out it was a faulty part they fixed it? Or has it been 2 whole years of production and they still don't have it fixed? I guess I will answer wittom's question with a question, Ok you hear there is a great place in your town to get something to eat, they say the food is great but a little on the pricy side. So you are planning on going there this week and someone says to you at work, "Oh I ate there once and they burnt the toast", but almost everyone else says "the food was fantastic"!! So when you go that night, are you willing to pay for a pricy meal that is burnt and say I hope they get that fixed the next time I go? Do you decide since almost everyone loves the place and 1 or 2 told you they had burnt the toast, that you will never eat there??? Or, on that night you go, you INSPECT your meal *hopefully before you start eating it* any you see they burnt your toast, would you tell the waitress, I am sorry but I really don't like a burnt meal and refuse to take delivery of that pricy poorly cooked meal? Keep in mind, you only have to pay for that meal that night,,, not for 3 to 5 years later!! In the food business they may give you your money back, did you ever read or see that on a car? The food business may say, I am sorry let me get you another one, have you heard about that in the car industry? Look, I just wanted to see what to look for, just like you would be looking for burnt toast if you knew they do that *on very few occasions*. I don't have to take the truck and won't if it has issues, I don't have to buy a Ford, I want to buy a Ford and I want to take it home this week, I know it can has issues down the road and that is what the warranty is for, but if you want to eat the burnt toast and pay for your meal go right ahead, I however would want them to make it right before I pay!

After reading THIS forum (and no other!), I started checking my high brake light and noticed some crud migrating thru the light seal.

It wuz gonna rain in Danxville that day so I spread a BUNCH of beach towels around my back seat and sure enough, the next a.m. the towels were wet!! Along with the rear of my headliner.

Went to the stealer that day (I'm retired) and while there told them I observed water dripping from the grab handle also (which I got from this forum, and no other!!) so they re-sealed the Sirius antenna at the same time.

All the water that intruded into the interior was sopped up by the towels, so my seats and carpet weren't soaked.

Replaced the headliner, new high brake light and gasket, and re-sealed the Sirius antenna in a 4 hour time slot.

The stealer drove me home and picked me up when it was finished.

Injector # 8 went south a month later, but everthang has been warrantied and so far no complaints.

All this was 6 months ago and so far, so good, but I keep an eye on the high brake light cuz some members have gone back 3 times for replacement.

Water intrusion probs is nothing new to the FoMoCo.

I owned a 1978 E-150 (bought new) and carried a bar of soap in the console so I could lather up every time it rained!!

Having a soaked interior is bad enough, but the smell from mildew and mold can make you sick.

Back up camera's should and will be standard on these trucks, soon.

Top of my tailgate is 4'-11" from the ground up, and lots of stuff can be back there without you knowing it.

And yes, I have the camera and sensors, but still no shutter release!!

Makes hooking up your tow a breeze.

Highster! OMG LOL! Too funny! The bar of soap it priceless!

The leaking 3rd brake light has been a nagging problem for Ford for a very long time. Do a search on the 2004-2008 forum. I have a 2011 and it hasn't leaked yet, but I wouldn't trust that means they solved the problem. They do have a new gasket and light design so maybe they solved it, but I don't know that for a fact. The problem has been around at least since the 2004 model year. The shuddering issue seems to be more prevalent on the longer WB models that have a 2 piece driveshaft, and is not specific to any of the engines. I have a 2 piece driveshaft and I have not noticed any shuddering. Some people have reported orange peel in their paint jobs, and some have reported superb paint jobs. Mine is very nice, and even the bottoms of my doors are painted - something to look for as some have reported bare metal or primer only on the bottoms of the doors. It's luck of the draw, I guess. I truly wish you all the best and I hope you get a good truck. You've done your homework on these trucks and you still want to buy one, so you already know what to look for. That's more than many people will do when they buy a new vehicle. All that said, I guess I don't get it because I still don't know how to answer your question. So I'm going to shutter the heck up and look forward to pictures of your new Ford truck.

I like the analogy! Here's the thing. You are asking if this restaurant has issues with burnt toast, entrees that give you horrendous gas and deserts that give you the runs. You can see that toast is burnt, but you're going to pay for that pricey dinner before you find out if the entree will give you eye watering gas, or if you are going to be planted on the commode as a result of your desert.

For most of us, we will have put several thousand miles, perhaps more, before any of these issues creep up. Buying an F150, or any vehicle, or even any product, is as much a crap shoot as picking that tiramisu from the desert menu.

Enjoy your new F150. It's a great truck!

shortride Mar 27, 2012 07:32 AM

I'm not sure about the gastronomical analogy but I can't believe I saw a 2012 in the service department getting a new headliner because of a 3rd brake light leak. I thought Ford would have fixed that issue once and for all. They must have used some old stock 3rd brake lights.
