Suggestion for HID's
 

Hey guys...
So i'm in the market for some HID's. I'm a newbie when it comes to it though..
Im not going to do any retrofit..i'd like to plug and play in my stock housing
I'd like 6000k lights

What brands should i look into? Any suggestions? thanks a lot

No, HID's in general. Im no pro, but I'd be worried about getting the Ballast wet and having a power surge or short. Not to mention they look rediculous in stock housings, im surprised you havnt been grilled by the boys on here yet...

They all come from China and are cheaply made...

Stick to Halogens in the stock housing. The Ricer blue would look retarded on your beautiful RED truck.

I bought the DDM HID kit. They were crap though. Shipped me the wrong product first. Then one that wasn't compatible (high beams didn't work on GEN3 models). Then one that was broke.

I sent it back for my money back after arguing with some buy named Brian about it not being my fault it didn't work. They were a total PITA and I had to aim the light so far down to avoid scatter that in the end they weren't *that* much better than the stock lights.

TRS. 5k retrofit for the Red Rocket would look good.

you can get a plug and play HID kit from www.theretrofitsource.com but I wouldn't recommend it. HIDs are not meant to be put in reflective housings, they are meant for projectors. You are going to loose light all over and blind the heck out of oncoming drivers. I know this because I am running a plug and play kit right now until I can get my projectors retrofitted and it is junk. It will light the road up in front of you better than stock but it also lights up way out to the sides, way up high, and everywhere else your headlights are not supposed to shine. There is no distinct cutoff line like with projectors HIDs.

If you feel you MUST simply use a plug and play kit at least buy your parts from T.R.S. so you get quality products and not that cheap china crap all over ebay. But please for the sake of other drivers just save up until you can retrofit. The plug and play kits are being outlawed anyhow and cops in DFW are already issuing "fix it" tickets to vehicles using PnP kits that did not come with HIDs from the factory. If you retrofit into projectors you will not get this ticket because they are D.O.T. approved.

I agree with everything you said, but just clarifying. DOT does not "approve" or "disapprove" anything. They set standards that everyone has to adhere by. While projector in the fine line adhere to these standards, if they are modified in any way (such as installing them in a vehicle that never originally came with them) their DOT compliance is null and void. Therefore, legality rests on a case-by-case basis by the State you reside in and their local laws. In the case of Florida, HIDs are legal as long as they are white and not causing glare. That's what makes projectors legal and PnPs illegal.

To the OP: Sorry, but the 09+ trucks have a horrible reflector pattern. If you put HIDs in there (besides looking retarded), you will be blinding everyone and their uncle, as well as destroying your housings. Plus eBay ballasts are notorious for starting high-voltage C-class fires. Ask me how I know. I've had the exact kit you've posted. If you think you have bad lights, wait until you install those things. You won't see crap. Don't fall for the pictures in the eBay ad you posted. All those output pictures are OEM projectors (what I have) but someone with basic MS Paint skills obviously tinted the picture to change the color. What you see is NOT what you get. Xtralights.com make some good kits but like was posted before they are all made in china or japan so take your pick. Or get some GORECON.com projectors and put some good bulbs in them like i did the work good!

Well I'm on the otherside of this topic. I don't care how much money is spent on retro fitting projectors into a stock housing, in the end, it still looks likes cheap ebay crap. I love how everyone always says "you'll blind everybody on the road.." even read some tool who said you'll kill someone with a plug and play kit. But come on, let's be honest.

I've had my kit for over a year now, and not a single flash from on coming traffic. I think the guys who jack there truck up in the air, are far worse for blinding people then the plug n play hids. I agree, the blue and purple lights look retarded, but in the end I really don't care if someone wants to run them.

I picked the ddm 35w 5k kit. Very white with a very light hue of blue. I've been driving behind my wife several times and asked if they were too bright or annoying, and she said no.

I see points you guys make, and it makes sense on black and white. But in the end, it doesn't matter. Bright lights don't annoy me, I can always look at the road instead of some guys headlights.... And many new oem hids are very bright from the factory...almost worse then plug and play.

Like everyone said, PnP kits might looks better to you as a driver. But they spill light everywhere and annoy anyone else on the roads. I see some 09+ 150s every night on the way to work with PnP HIDs and they blind the crap out of me.
I wouldn't be too concerned about them not being water proof unless they are listed as not being so. My $60 chinese HIDs in my quad have spent alot of time underwater without issue.
