Best place to buy online/winter tire suggestions

Looking at getting some winter tires for my 2011 f150. Wondering if I should go with a winter tire or a aggressive all terrain. Also whats some good places online to get winters? I live in BC canada so the snow/ice here is crazy. Thanks!

After extensive searching, and looking at getting tires shipped from the U.S., and then paying to have them installed, ect.... I wound up getting a better bang for my buck deal at Costco here in Calgary. Not sure how close you are to the border, but if you can slip across, Costco in Kalispell Montana always seems full of Alberta Plates on long weekends.

I swear by blizzaks, they are absolutely fantastic. I have also heard very good things about green diamond tires. Ohhh, and I live in alaska. My winter tires spend more time on my truck than my summer tires.

I have a 2wd, and I have a set of Michelin X-Ice winter tires that I bought on a closeout from Tire Rack. I bought a used set of cheap painted steel wheels from Patman for them.

Aggressive all-terrains are excellent in snow, but terrible on ice unless they can be studded - and they are noisy.

Looks like you are 3 hours or so from Kalispell - Costco may be the way to go.

Haha i'm actually in calgary, I was looking at getting a set of goodyear duratracs from the states but i'll see what costco has.

I bought a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks DM V1 last November from Costco. I was running the factory 18's on my truck at the time, but found a wicked deal on a set of 17 inch take off's (rims) on a 2010xlt. I bought 285/70/17 tires, as the overall height was close enough to not affect the speedo, but for a minute amount (3%) I think. The tires were $1041.56 installed, balanced, taxed, and driving away. I seem to recall an identical sized 18" was about $10 more per corner, but I couldn't find a good deal on another set of 18" wheels.

My local dealer has the best price even beating Costco. I can get a full set of ford 17" steels, TPMS sensors, Michelin latitude X Ice 2 265/70/17 installed all in for 1300 CDN. Costco was 1540.

And I'm in barrie, Ontario. We drive to Banff and western US 2 times a winter for skiing so I ALWAYS go with dedicated high end snows like the Latitude or Blizzak. Both are fantastic snow tires.

I haven't driven on Blizzaks, but I'm very impressed with the Michelins - they are quiet, ride smooth, and handle well on wet and dry pavement. Last winter, we had a 19 inch snowstorm, which is unheard of around here and the city does not plow the side streets. With 2wd and no weight in the bed, I had to put my cable chains on to get out of my driveway and the alley, but once I was out I removed the chains and had no problems getting around. I paid a kid to shovel out a spot for me in front of the house and parked in the street for a couple weeks till the alley and driveway melted down.

Only reason i'm leaning toward the duratracs is because I do lots of offroading in the winter(sledding/hunting etc)

Can they be studded, and are studs legal in your province?

After extensive research I ordered 17 " 265/70/17 Michelin latitude x ice XI2 with sensors from my dealer. Got them for 1380 all in. And 70 rebate from Michelin. Cheaper than Costco and tirerack. Ford says they will beat any price on tires. Just FYI.

chris3058 10-04-2011 08:27 PM

Oh yeah. Thar includes rims. Lol. And the new latitude XI2 has a 60000 km warranty!! Crazy. Will last 60% longer than a blizzak ( which I've owned).
