Wheel and tire questions

Hi everyone, my name is Ed. I'm new here to this site but I am a member in a few other forums. I have a 2010 F150XLT super crew 4x4, 4.6 V8, 6 speed automatic, no mods as of yet but I'm getting to the starting point. Right now I have the stock 265/70/17's on 7.5 " rims, I'm looking at aftermarket wheels and tires right now. I found a nice set of 20x9" Gear 723 chrome rims and would like to know what the biggest size tire I can run on them, again no mods have been made and as of now I don't have any plans on doing a leveling kit. I tried to do a search and came up with to many different sizes and stories. I want to run Nitto Trail Grapplers 305/55/20 on the 20x9 rims. Can I do that without any rub and if so what backspace or offset would I need to run them. I don't mind if they stick out abit from the wheel wells and I know it will throw my spedo off with the bigger tires. Right now the stock wheels and tires 10.4" wide and 31.7" tall the Nitto wheels and tires would be 12" wide and 33" tall so we are looking at about an inch and a half taller and wider than stock. Any help is appriciated, Thanks Ed

Ed, I'd guess the 9" wheel with about 5.75 to 6 inches of backspace will get those tires away from the upper control arm but at stock height they will be close. I'm running 305x55x20 Terra Grapplers on stock wheels but they are real close to the control arm but no rubbing in over 8k miles. This is how they look at stock height.

Nice looking truck PawPaw, do you remember what your backspacing is? I like the stance your truck has, not to high, not to redneck-ish either. Here is a pic of my truck and the rims and tires I'm looking at.

That wheel setup would look great on your truck. I have 18" fuel wheels and 33" nitto trail grapplers on my 2010 4x4 without a leveling kit and they are not even close to rubbing. I hope this helps you out little.

What is the width on your wheels and tires and what backspacing do you have on your rims?

The stock Ford 20" wheels have close to a 6.2 inch BS and that's what put's the tire close to the control arm. The Terra Grapplers are 12.6 inches wide too. The wheels and tires you are planning to get will bring the assy. outward's and may be close to the lower bumper at stock height. I since have leveled my truck 2 inches and like the look even more. Forgot to mention that's a nice wheel and tire package you picked out.

The width of the wheels are 9" and the backspace is 5.75 and the offset is 20. They do stick out a little but not more than a inch.

What is the width of the tire you are running? I'm thinking a 5.75" backspace with a +20 offset and the wheels and tires being 33.2" tall should be ok, I hope lol.

Stocker's are 8 1/2 inches wide with close to a 6.2 inch BS. No rubbing at stock height but real close to the upper control arm. Side lug's on the Trail Grapplers may rub on the stock wheel's so I went with the Terra's.

I believe the tire is 11.9" wide. There are some pictures in my photo album if you want to take a look at them.

Crap I didn't notice that. I'm going with the terra grapplers, sorry had a brain fart there.
