WARNING Pirelli's Side Wall Cracking !!
Hey all I found out about this on another fourm. PLEASE check your tires for what is being called "ozone cracking". There are several guys on the other site that have noticed that their tires are cracking around the bead on the sidewall of the inner side of of each tire. I looked at mine and have the same problem... I called Pirelli yesterday and was told to go back to the dealer to have them replaced under warranty.. Long story short I ended up a Discount Tire and had them warrantied today no questions asked... The guy said at 14,000 miles no tire should have sidewall cracking... I went with Nitto Terra Grapplers instead.. I went to my local Ford dealer on Labor day to check and see if the tires on the new trucks had the same problem... I found two.. Here we go again. Faulty tires!!! Is there a way to make this a sticky? People need to be made aware of this?

Thanks for the info.

Hmm, that's no good. I haven't had any issue with mine at 30,000 mi....
|
Thanks for sharing. I have 27k on mine and they are OK but I will definitely keep an eye on it.
|
Wow. Gotta love my Michelins. Almost 40,000 miles and still shine up new.
|
I couldn't believe it... When I went to my local dealer to inform them, one of the mechanics purchased a new F-150 and he looked at his tires and noticed his are cracking too... I really can't get over Pirelli telling me get them replaced no question asked... They must know that there is a problem. Remember... You won't notice this just looking at the outside.... Everyone that has this including me, the problem is on the sidewall facing the frame of your truck.

Thanks for the heads up, I have to check mine now.
|
Wow that's pretty bad.
|
Great post, will definitely check mine when I get home tonight. Thanks for sharing

I checked mine and they look like they are in very good condition.

Are people putting some black-magic-like shine gunk on them and they are dry rotting?

I used to work for a dealer as a service writer and manager. Every once and a while a new vehicle would come in with cracks in the tires. All you need to do is look at the manufacture date on the tires. It will tell you how old they are. Manufacturers purchase bulk amounts of tires and they may set in storage for a few years. You may have a 3 year old tire on a brand new vehicle.
I can easily see why the op has this issue at 14,000 miles. |
The sidewall is actually "peeling" off of my dads 07 FX4's Pirellis.
