Ecoboost Full Synthetic Oil?

Has anyone used 0-20 or 0-30 full synthetic? I know the manual says 5-30 ford blend. But I think a full synthetic would do as well. Why are they recommending 5-30. Is it because of the heat from the Turbos? Any one getting better milage with a certain brand of 5-30 full synthetic? I also realize Ford could void warranty if you had a problem but they would have to do an oil test to find out and Full syn will stand up better to heat and friction than a blend.

I remember when 5-30 came out and people thought you were crazy if you used it. A number of my friends stuck with 10-30 or 10-40. I guess we will see
0-15 or 0-10 in a couple years.

Thanks

I'll be doing 5w30 full synthetic very shortly. I would stick with the oil weight that is suggested for your ambient air temp range where you live…

0w30 is the same weight oil as 5w30 at operating engine temp. The differences are very slight.

The difference is, 0w30 maintains a slightly lower kinematic viscosity than 5w30 at a given cold temperature. the meaning of the numbers: 0w30 should have the same viscosity at 0 deg C that 5w30 has at 5 deg C. Both will be the same 30 grade oil at engine operating temperature. The first number only applies to the oil before you start the engine (0w is better for winter starts). Both oils rate equally (30 grade) at operating temperature, so there really is no risk in using 0w30, especially if it is a high quality pure synthetic.

I haven't reached the 1st oil change yet but will be putting in 0w30 100% pure synthetic (Amsoil) when I do.

BTW - Be careful with the term "Full Synthetic". Chances are it is not actually man-made synthetic, but high quality, highly refined dino oil.

The Ford oil spec for the 3.5L EcoBoost is WSS-M2C929-A.

No problem using a full synthetic, but if for no other reason than warranty security, probably makes sense to use a full synthetic that meets that spec. You will find that some, but not all, full synthetics list WSS-M2C929-A.

Ones that I know of are:
Motorcraft 5W-30 Full Synthetic
Mobil 1 5W-30
Penzoil Ultra 5W-30
Kendall GT-1 Ultimate 5W-30
