Rent tires for a day

Hi Thanks for visiting my post. I just purchased a 2010 F15 Super Crew PU. Aside from the unbelievable bad gas milage ( 11 MPG - 4.6L) I love the truck. Since the day I bought it a strange issue would happen occasionally. The TCM would trigger the front left break to engage when using FRWY on/off ramps. After having the transmission serviced and "stuff" looked at. Ford agrees that the TCM is engaging at inappropriate times.

With all of this said Ford refuses to test or correct/replace the TCM as the tires on my truck are not the stock size. Mine are 285/75/17 and the original equipment is 255/65/17.

They insist I buy new tires of the stock size to allow them to rule out the tires as a cause for the TCM issue. I refuse to pay over $800 for them to say yes the TCM is bad. They admit any tire (matched set) in any condition is acceptable. I ask anyone in San Diego to rent tires for the day. I know this sounds crazy but I will pay $150 to rent the tires to prove one way or the other the tires are or are not the issue.

I can be reached at 858 722 8611. I really need the help if you can spare the few hours it would take.

Save your money and do a search on this problem in the forums. It's a normal problem people are getting with larger tires, and thats what the dealers are telling them too, however I dont know how or if they were fixed. My truck came new from my dealer with 35's and a 6in BDS lift and I dont have any problems with it going off.

Id suggest CL. If you can meet someone you trust enough, or just buy em right out Money Talks!

Go to the junk yard and sweet talk them. I think that Ecology has a large operation in the San Diego/Carlsbad area.

Or you might try a wheel and tire place, they might have some take offs they would rent. Probably need a deposit though.

Or find 3 friends with F-150's and use the factory spares.

Or go and rent a truck and put it on jack stands, a one day rental should be less than $150.

Gotta be creative.

It WILL correct itself if you go back to stock size. It's part of the game of going to larger tires. Mine was corrected for the MOST part after getting an Edge tuner and reprogramming the computer for the correct tire size. Before it used to happen ALL the time, even with the traction control turned off. Now, it barely happens, but I have also learned how to drive with it and when to expect it and what speeds I can take which turns. If you go the Edge route, you get much more benefits than just correcting the computer for the tire size.....look up some info on this forum; it's a wealth of information.

Wish I could help man, being so close to you it would have been perfect! We have a bunch of old tires but none that are all the same or would fit your truck. If I think of something I'll let you know. Where in SD are you?

Thought I read on here someplace that someone's dealer reprogrammed the tire size for them for a fee as well. Is your dealer not willing to do that?
