It's here finally
I picked up my truck last night, finally. I had to settle for a white and adobe Lariat. Can you imagine saying you had to settle for a Lariat? :p A few years ago I couldn't afford to think about a Lariat let alone buy one, now there's one sitting in my driveway. Details: 3.5l, SCREW, adobe interior, heated/cooled seats, Lariat Plus package, and 3.15 rear. Before anybody gets on the rear I don't tow or haul heavy loads, just bulky stuff. I used x-plan and price out the door was about $34k after rebates. So I saved approximately $6k. The dealer was more than fair with our trade, we were expecting no more than $1k and more likely $500. They gave us $2k. Not bad for a 10 year old Explorer sport with many body dings.
Today the truck goes back to get the spray in liner. The stuff the dealer uses is Toff and has a lifetime warranty. After dropping the truck off I am going to the toy store and buying some step rails/nerf bars so the wife can get in the truck. I had the option of buying the bed liner with the sale, but figured it would add to the cost basis for the truck and increase my registration fees every year. |

i would not go with toff, we had it on my 02 f150 it didn't last worth a damn. constantly chipping and not enough grip after the use i put it through. |

In good traffic 1.5 hours away opened Monday-Friday. Unfortunately there is almost never good traffic in the city.

I only drive 15 minutes to work, and I'd have to take a day off just to get the spray done.
Just got done installing a set of nerf bars for the wife. The only way she'd agree to me buy the truck instead of her getting a new car was if it had steps for her to get in. |

Congrats on your truck. I saw an XLT Screw with the Ecoboost with a 3.55 axle and an Ecoboost Scab with the 3.15 today while having my Tow Mirrors, Trailer Brake Controller, and Mud Guards installed. I didn't even know they offered such a tall gear. If you don't tow, you'll not miss it unless you have a lead foot. Even with the 3.15 gear, it's still better gearing than what most trucks had only a few years ago with their 5 speed autos.
If your like me and didn't want a permanent, paint damaging, none FORD bedliner, you have 2 routes. You can get the Ford Sportliner bedliner made by Bedrug (just a Ford label instead of Bedrug Label) or the Bedrug bedliner. They are very rugged. You can do most of anything you can do with a spray in liner. The dealer that sold both I bought from, said the Bedrug doesn't do well with shovel use as that can pull on the fibers BUT I've read of people using it for dirt and mulch with no issues. I didn't care for the Bedtread by bedrug. It's pretty rubber like and thin, with a very thin foam backing. Not nearly the thickness of the Bedrug. Owners said the Bedrug may be better for use with a tonneau cover or Cap, but I've never read of any problems with the bedrug. I've read more problems with spray in liners fading/chauking and chipping off. I've seen this first hand with my Father-in-laws Rhino liner but it's on an older truck. It didn't fade at all, still black as black can get, but on the edges of where it was sprayed, it's chipping off. I didn't go with a spray in because the dealers around here don't do the Ford Spray in and I wasn't comfortable with the paint damage that is required for the spray liners to stick on the surface. Most spray in liners warranty their liners but not rust in the bed from their liners pulling away, or chipping away, from the metal that is no longer protected by paint. I would feel more comfortable with a FORD spray in as long as it's warranty is as long as the vehicles. Otherwise, Bedrug/Sportliner bedliners are really the best. When I had my Nissan Titan, their Spray In liners were bubbling and pulling away from the metal. They replaced many owners beds or they had a Line X dealer do a repair, depending on how bad the problem was. Many people prefer Bedrug bedliners because of their cushioning as they are very easy on the knees opposed to spray in or drop in liners. My dealer stated both spray in and bedrug have their pros and cons and neither is the better. They sold their Bedrug and Spray In liner for the same price. Good luck in what ever you choose and get. |
