Disapointed in sound system in 11's

Hey guys..

I recently picked up my new 11 ecoboost...love everything about it but the sound system is just fair. I have the in dash navigation with sony speakers and sony sub but dispointed in the performance of it.

I had polk components and two 10inch subs in my previous truck and it looks like i'm going to have to upgrade once again.

Anyone else agree that the stock system is just ok?

I'm still waiting for my truck to be delivered but thought after playing with the system for about 1/2 hour on the lot that it would be OK. Not great, but adequate. Now I'm nervous. I don't expect the same as an aftermarket system but don't really need that much power and there is a benefit having everything integrated into the truck. Currently have Kenwood DVD/Nav, Infinity speakers, Alpine amps, single JL Audio 10" sub. I really hope that I'll be satisfied, or that simple upgrades to speakers/sub/amp will be viable options if the stock audio ends up being insufficient.

What was the system in your last truck. I have an 11 on order with the nav system and wondering how it will compare with the "premium" system in my 08 lariat?

In your mind, what qualifies as a good sound system? In my mind a good sound system isn't how loud the thing can get or how much thump can be felt through the bass notes. For me, a good sound system is musical and allows the listener to hear nuance and images where each musician is sitting in relationship to the listener. To me a good sound system allows the lows to play without overwhelming the mids or the highs. Bass notes are tight and without drone or distortion from porting.

In my mind 10" subs is way too much sound pressure in such a small and confined area and is fatiguing to be near as well as damaging to long term hearing even at modest listening levels.

Notwithstanding, to each their own.

I love the stock NAV system it sounds great and I can hear a lot of detail in my music CD's that have been ripped.

Two of my close friends have MegaCab's with built sound systems. Comparing those to virtually any stock stereo system is almost unfair. A good aftermarket system will run considerably more than what Ford invests in the stock system, plus not everyone wants a system that'll blow their head off...

I'm personally ordering a Platinum without navigation since I plan to rip the head unit out and install an aftermarket system. I'm building for sound quality, not sound power level.

Good point. I have one friend that thinks a "Great System" is one that rattles you fillings loose, who cares what the "music" sounds like. :ll:

Then I have another that has spent more on the sound system in his TL than his Acura TL cost new, and it is silly how crisp and clear the system is, at any volume I am comfortable listening to... :bows:

I like the 2nd system better...:fyi:

But then, I also like the Sony system Ford put in my '10, so...:bandito: :D

For a factory system i think it's not that bad.

Devin4X4 Mar 24, 2011 04:15 PM

thanks for the input guys...

i am for one, am a sound clairity freak like some of you...I'm not all about the bump/bass from the subs either. Too much bass is way over powering and takes away from the music itself.

It will definently blow away most stock systems, just a little disapointed in the sony speakers. Thought they'd have a little more sound to em.
Guess i got spoiled with my polk components from the old one

CD's def sound better than the radio/siruis

Most likely will upgrade to after market down the road..def not a neccessity.
Just wanted to hear opinions from some you guys out there.

Captain Awesome Mar 24, 2011 04:31 PM

I hear ya. the system is better than most stock ones but i'am not a big fan of the sony speakers ether. i will be upgrading to after market ones sum time too.

I replaced the stock Sony sub with a 10" Fosgate P2 with a 300w Fosgate amp. Made all the difference in the world.

The Sony system costs more? Right? Something like $400?

That's not considered stock.

It came from the Factory with those speakers, right? That is considered Stock.

By you logic, my 5.4 is a modified motor, not because I did any thing to it, but just because the 4.6 is the "base" motor for that year? :ll:

High-ster Mar 24, 2011 07:09 PM

The stock system isn't Sony. Didn't you pay extra?

You're system was upgraded from the stock system.

Devin4X4 Mar 24, 2011 07:15 PM

Basically it is the Upgraded Stock version lol

Andrew- did you connect the amp for more power to the speakers also?
