5.0 mileage? Owners report please!

Howdy gang-

I have been real excited about the supposed great milage from the new 3.5EB, but as more EB trucks get on the road, and owners are reporting mileage, it seems it is not living up to the hype (owners getting 16-17mpg, instead of the 20-23mpg that was reported from the EB events.) That, plus EB 6.5' bed Screws are really hard to find, so now I am thinking of the 5.0. Have not test driven one yet...

The question is - what mileage are you 5.0 guys getting? If you could report mpg c/h%, cab, and rear end, I would appreciate it.

Thanks, guys!

I drive in a mix of stop and go to short cruises up to about 65 going to work every day. Round trip is about 50 miles. The rest of my driving has been very short trips here and there which really kills gas millage.

I've been averaging around 16.5 and today I just hit 17mpg. Truck only has 1500 miles on it and I'm hoping it will improve.

2011 Screw 5.0L w/ 3.55 gears and short bed.

Hand calculated number would be better then number from the lie-o-meter.

I've been getting over 17 mpg in mixed driving, show's 19-20 mpg on hwy at 60 mph. A lot of this is with the AC on too! Truck only has a thousand miles on it so far.

I have the screw with the 3.73 rear and less than 1000 miles. I would estimate about 30% of my driving is city miles.

If I take it easy on open highway I'll get close to 17 mpg on my 20 mile commute... but with L.A. traffic I've been getting about 14.9 combined. My all-terrains don't help, and I expect mileage to increase around the 10,000 mile point.

Not great but just as good as my last truck which had a V6, and a lot more HP and payload.

This is based on the truck's calculations, not my own. Also, I re-set the meter after every fill up.

Well because that's how everyone is calling it.

Poeple say it's not precise.

I do hand calculate, but they are always very close.

If we only knew exactly how much gas we put in we could calculate out better. So there will be some error either way.

I have a 2011 but it's not the 5.0, so I'm just butting my nose in your business.

I've got 1025mi on the truck so far and have found that the "lie-o-meter" is actually pretty close.

In addition to what type of driving is done, I think where it's done makes a difference in fuel economy. You folks in the flat lands will generally be able to get better numbers than us folks in the hills. You folks in the mountains will be burning more fuel.

I've just got the base V6 in my STX. I've only added fuel a few times. 18.1, 19.X and 18.58 I think is what I've got for numbers so far on this regular cab 4X4. Like you 5.0 folks, I'm hoping to see some improvement. For what it's worth, this 2011 F150 is getting about the same as what the 2007 Edge I traded was getting in the winter months.

So far I am getting 16 mpg mixed driving and I did get 20 mpg on a highway trip. My truck has 850 mi on it so its not fully broke in.

2011 Supercrew 5.0 V8 with 6.5 foot bed
3.73 rear end
18" wheels

This information is off the LCD display - so take it for what's its worth. I have been driving the truck conservatively during break in, so the numbers will eventually drop as the foot gets heavier.

Later.

Purchased on 12/30/10, has 2000 miles on the ODO and 17.8 mpg on four tanks of Shell 87 octane in combined driving. The avg. computer shows 20.3 mpg. It has been .5 to .6 mpg higher than my calculator.

Between 16.5-18.5mpg. The key seems to be keeping it at or below 70mph. I drive 50/50 and actually do really well in town.

The key for getting good gas mileage on any truck is to stay 2 to 3 mph below the posted limit and use the cruise if possible. I peaked at 20.5 this morning going 60 mph and I thought my '04 Screw got good mileage.

Another thing to keep in mind is that all of these numbers are based on winter gas. Mileage always drops by 1MPG or more on this blend. Once the weather warms up and a few more miles get put on I expect the numbers to go up some more.
