4800 mile fuel mileage update...

I just crossed over 4800 miles and my fuel mileage is no where near what Ford claims it should be or what I'd hoped it would be. I have a 11' 5.0 super crew long box with 20" wheels and 3.73's.

The best HWY mileage i've seen is 18 Canadian (15.8 American) and the best city I've seen is 15mpg (12.5 American) for a combined mileage of 15.8 or 13.1 for those of you in America.

Is there anyone out there from Canada that can share the mileage reports with me? Or I can convert the numbers if any of you Americans can chime in...

My Ford dealer says my truck is running well and has NO problems, A buddy of mine claims his 11' 5.0 is getting 25mpg on the hwy and 19mpg in town. (Canadian numbers)

On the hwy I keep my speed around 100kmh (62mph) and I rarely mash the peddle or horse around...

I am sure you are frustrated at the numbers you are getting, I would be as well.

Just wanted to say thanks for posting them as painful as it may be. Folks like me that are on the fence between motors will find this useful for future purchases.

I hope things improve for you.

Wow, those look like my 09 Screw 4x4 5.4L/3.55 mileage numbers....

Interesting.

that's terrible. my '11 scab fx4 (3.73's) w/ the 5.0 pulls 15.5-16.5 city consistently, only been on a couple part city and highway trips and averaged out 16.5-17. (american mpg)

Doesn't sound too good for the 5.0; my '10 with a 5.4L, 3.73s, and 35s averages about 12.3 in the city and 15 highway. The 5.0L in my 2011 Mustang is averaging 15.9 in the city and I averaged 25.1 on a 1000 mile round trip a couple weeks ago. I wasn't being too easy on it though.

By the way..... everything I do is hand calculated. The MPG readout in neither of my vehicles is correct.

There is something wrong there. Are you lifted or larger tires? My overall avg is 15 with 90% city and 75% of that is pulling a trailer.

i dunno seems everyone is popping up different numbers. My fathers 2011 5.0 screw (20's and 3.73) is getting 18 city/20hiway (USA), and sitting at 10k miles. Since there are plenty of variables between trucks and drivers/driving conditions, here is a little info on his truck; most of the highway miles are cruise control miles, running a bed cover, & use of ac vs windows down. Running a k&n filter (not cold air intake, just filter) & running nitrogen not air in the tires, & has ran seafoam thru engine at both 5k oil changes.

Hopefully there is something in that info that helps.

Your father is getting 22city/24hwy in Canadian mpg, compared to my 15city18hwy. I would be happy with 22/24 as I know I will never achieve the window sticker mpg...

No lift, stock Pirelli's, the only mod that I could see hampering the fuel mileage would be my Fiberglass Tonneau cover...

I'm getting a consistant 16-17 mpg on my daily 100 mile commute. That's with 30 miles of hwy and 20 miles with some traffic light's to contend with. I get 18-19 mpg on a straight hwy run even with 33 inch tires.

I would agree there must be something wrong. I've got Just over 5k on my FX4 Screw, Ecoboost 3.73. I put a 4" lift and oversized Terra Grapplers (325/60R18 = 33x12.8) on at about 1200 miles. My mileage has varied from a best tank of 19mpg (before changing out the wheels and tires) to 14.5 (towing a car hauler and 2 place PWC trailer separate instances during the tank). The first tank even included idling for 45 minutes while the salesman went over the interior features and NAV system. My 5k+ lifetime mileage is currently at 16.2mpg. Its an ecoboost, but 5.0 shouldn't be much different at all. If your not hauling loads regularly, I'd ask to have it checked out.

In my experience the computed mileage has always been within .1 (one tenth) of hand calculation. I find it extremely accurate not sure why others aren't seeing the same results??

I would try driving differently to see what you have to do to net the best mpgs. Under 2k rpm most of the time should do the trick.

My window sticker says 16/21. (it's a V6) I think it was 17 when I first got the truck but quickly was averaging 19. When the weather warmed up I was seeing no less than 20. Lately I've been seeing 21-22 consistantly. (18's/3.73's) I drive the truck like I want good mpgs. It's not always easy, but I believe that I've proven it can be done. A majority of the time I drive 50% highway and 50% city/rural.

I'm hoping to hit 23 with some tuning.

07..... Canadian miles per gallon? Dude, you're making us look bad. :o

Maybe an Ontario mile is a little shorter than an Alberta mile too eh?

I have a '11 Lariat Ecoboost - 3.73 20" rims, screw, max tow, off-road....

I was getting around 14.5 L/100km in town before it broke in. Then I took a 4600km road trip and saw a highway at 13.6 L/100km for the 2600 km down (speed was over 110 mostly) For the 2000 km back I average around 12.5 L/100km. Dont know what that is per mile....

I took it in for the first service and now in town i'm getting around 13.5 L/100 km now. I will be taking the same trip in another month so I'll update once I get back to see if my highway mileage has changed....I have been on the gas a little so i'm sure with raising my right foot a little I could see better fuel economy

mileage

I took a trip from Canada to Calif. and averaged over 17 mpg highway and city. On my trip home from Calif. to Canada, I averaged 18.5 mpg. I am going by my trip computer and have set the units for standard. I am used to this measurement because I am from the states. My truck is the f150 5.0 Canadian. This truck was completely stock at the time. 20" rims, Pirelli tires. Hope this helps!
