Has Ford Confirmed the motor line-up for 2011 yet?
 
I've pretty much dropped off the F-150 radar since I sold my 06 FX4. been focusing on the 05+ Mustang instead.

I want to get back into a F-150...but I want more HP. So it seems a '11 or '12 model is my option. My last F-150 was Supercharged and was a beast. The 5.4 3v bone stock just doesn't cut it for me.

I came across this for the new 5.0 and it got me thinking. Evolution Performance Tunes a 5.0 - They got that puppy at about 450 crank HP with nothing really but tuning...so about $1,000


I would rather have the much discussed and hypothetical 6.2 motor...but damn, the 5.0 apparently has some real balls. If these trucks still have 80-100 HP drivetrain loss like the 04-08's, you are still looking at almost 350 RWHP (after exhaust + tuning) with that badass 6 speed.




any thoughts? or still just a pipe dream?

If they put that 5.0 into the F150, it will be a beast, but I would still go for the 6.2. That thing is a torque monster.

I can't see them NOT having it in the F150, at least for Lariat/KR/Plat editions. It's the base engine for the SD's (which the 5.4L was before). I would imagine the lineup will have the 6.2L as the premium, then the EB v6, then the 5.0L or possibly the base v6. The issue I see, is that if they include the EB v6 and the 6.2L, then you may have one or even NO engines in the F150 that have been proven in that platform. I'd be wary of buying a truck with a 6.2 or EB, or 5.0L that hasn't had enough time in use to have the problems rear their ugly head.

It is why I went with the 4.6 2V on my 2008... they have been making it for 20 years.

the EB is a proven motor...just not the turbo part. I personally think the EB will be the base model motor. it's claims of better MPG's will be a deciding factor in the CAFE wars. And if Ford puts it into the F-150, the # of trucks produced with the engine will drive down the production costs and make it affordable.

the 5.0 is more suited for the midrange motor IMO.

and I agree the 6.2 will probably be a FX4 or better trim only option.



I wish Ford would just tell us. By the time the '11 F-150 comes out, the 5.0 will have been in the Stangs for 6+ months. So hopefully any issues that arise will have popped up already and Ford have fixed...or in the process of fixing. I really hope they learned their lesson on the 04-07 sparkplug debacle and are more proactive

Ford stated long ago now that the EB would be the premium engine OVER the 5.0L. Ford rep said in F150 form EB will proabbly have over 400 ft lbs of tq.

5.0L will not.

Not taking anything away from 5.0L. Just saying.

This reminded me. The 2010 order guide came out in May last year. This year we have to wait until fall I guess. :(

My mention of engine problems was related more to major screw-ups like the Cam phaser issue, the spark plugs breaking, etc on the 5.4L 04-08's.

While it's not the F150, I did test drive a 2011 F250 with a 6.2 and 4.30 gears. I was not impressed by the power this combination gave. Maybe on paper it's good but in real life, my Gryphon tuned 5.4 has more get up and go.

Ford also stated that the 5.0 was designed with the thought of direct injection/EB being added in the future... Can you imagine?

Keep in mind the F250 weighs probably 1500 lbs more too.

I drove a F250 with 6.2/and only 3.73s and I was VERY impressed. Pulled v hard as fast as I'd keep er flat. Sounded GREAT. Would be AMAZING in a reg F150.
