I have to anticipate the hills and give it a stab of gas to kick down and maintain speed. I am sure I can learn how to work around their program but it is much less natural than any other Ford I have towed with.
What speed are you towing at? I've been very impressed with my FX4. towing at 55-60. Were you in cruise, causing you to punch it when it didn't downshift right away on an incline?

It's a 310 HP motor (regular); and 365 ft lbs torque is what should allow it to pull an RV up a hill at XXXX RPMs, not HP. The 5.4 does make a lot of that torque low in the RPM band too. (around 90% at 1900RPM).

The 2011 F150's will allow manual shifting on the stearing wheel just like the new superduty's.

OK, but with which engine???

[/QUOTE]

I guess it will be with all the engines, 3.5 n/a 3.7 turbo and the 5.0. I think the 6.2 will only be in the rapter, might be in the king ranch and Harley, but thats just rumor. I still see a couple 4.4L diesels running around too, but I don't know if they will keep that going. I work at the R & E center in Dearborn and just here rumors so what they actually come to production wth, time will tell.

I don't use cruise control when towing very often. I like to roll 65-70mph. If I hold steady pedal it will lose several MPH before kicking down.

The engine only runs 1700 rpm in 6th gear locked up which is less than a quarter pedal. The 90% of 365ft lbs is made under WOT. It probably only makes 180lb ft while cruising. When I go WOT to tap into that 365lbft the tranny kicks down to third and run 4k+ RPM. This isn't a diesel. Even my F250 6L lugs below 1800 rpm with trailer and it makes 765lbft @2k.

I hear there is going to be a small naturally aspirated (non-EB) motor and I think its a 3.5L but not sure. They need a cheep base engine, I can't believe the 5.0L will be the base.

I towed the camper to the state park today. It does well under 60, over 65 is starts to build significant aero drag I can feel. Plus is doesn't seem to use 6th until around 65. So by keeping it around 60 it stays in the lower gear and doesn't lug near as badly up hills.

I just towed mine this weekend and hit the scales, Truck 6640# with me200# dad 200# back flip g2 and 80#s tools. That leaves me 1060# ccc, sticker on truck says 1764# the truck is allot heavier than the sticker says.

Truck
SA 3740#
DA 2900#

Weight with tt WD bars on 800# bars

SA 3640#
DA 3660#
TT 6320#
GW 13620#

Truck and trailer WD bars off.
SA 3420#
DA 4000#
TT 6200#
GW 13620#

Tongue wt ends up 780# but full for camping I know its about 880# Last year I weighed the tt full for a trip and it was about 6600#s.
Once I load up the kids and dog I won't be able to put anything in the bed, I thought I was going to have about 300#s left for cargo.

Trailer drops truck 3.5" wd bars bring it back up 1.5" I think I will be ordering ride rites. Coupler height is about 3/4" low and I am in the top hole in the shank, any taller and I couldn't open tailgate. Ball on truck is about 3/4" higher than coupler before I hook up.

I only put 30 miles on and it felt good but hunted between 4th and 5th every time someone passed me, I was doing 65 posted speed in MI is 70.

I thought it was going to be the 3.7 EB and a 3.5 NA but now there is an article saying otherwise. There are many different motors running around in the test mules, maybee there for other vehicles?

Thanks GN,
I dfinately need to get my rig weighed as if anything, my TT is about 1K heavier than yours. My truck is going in tomorrow for the TSB on the spline. One thing I definately need to have them look at is the trans slip in second (while towing). I will send an update once I have my truck back from the dealer.

Here is my weight ticket from my first haul with the TT. I was surprised how close the TT was to claimed 4550 dry. The truck had wife two German Shepherds and half a tank of gas. I was not in the truck so add 190lbs. The bars were boomed, I didn't feel like unhooking or weighting separately.

She tows nice in 5th gear around 65.

She lugs like a cow at 62 and 6th gear in TOW/HAUL.... I hear 2011 is going to have steering wheel gear controls like the Super Duty...

The scale shows the trailer axle weight. There is another 10-15% of trailer weight on the truck axles.
