Towing capacity of 2010 Harley??

Quick question I'm looking at the all wheel drive 2010 Harley and was wondering how well it pulls, I pull a trailer on a daily basis that weighs around 4000 pounds and I do not want to damage the truck by any means. Is there an issue here?

For whatever reason, the Harley has a much lower tow rating. 5300 for the 4x2 and 5100 for the 4x4. And that is with a 3.73 rear.

I was wondering the same thing b/c I was looking at getting one in the Lava color but with the 6.2 coming, I'm going to wait

My guess is it has to do with the suspension. I looked at one for fun while I was buying my truck. The sit much lower, have huge wheels and I'm told then handle like a car.

I can't imagine using a HD-edition to pull a trailer everyday. I honestly don't understand why they ever started offering the HD in an AWD version anyway.

The HD can be switched to 2wd, awd, or to 4 high.

I saw a 4x4 Harley the other day sitting at a dealership next to the FX4 and they both appeared to be sitting at the same height.

It's probably the AWD transfer case in conjunction with the suspension and wheels/tires. The Harley is a sport truck, not a work truck.

Where did you find those specs for the Harley because the Ford Canada web site says something completely different.

The Ford Canada web site specs say that the Harley AWD version has towing capacity of 9600lbs and the 4x2 version is 9800lbs.

The only model I see that has a substantially higher tow rating is the FX4 luxury package with 10,700lbs for the 5.5' box and 10,600lbs for the 6.5' box.
.....and that's only about 1000lbs difference.

Right out of the owners manual on www.motorcraftservice.com.

i was just looking at the ford website and it said max towing is 11000 pounds. is that a mistake? it seems pretty unreal to me

I found exactly what you are saying on p.257 of the owners manual.
Thanks for clearing that up for me.
I wonder why the discrepancy....between the manual and the specs listed on the Canadian web site. I'd bet the large majority of the tow load loss can be attributed to those 22" forged rims.

Max towing of 11000 is going to be for an 8200lb GVWR reg cab long bed 2wd. It certainly will not be for a Harley.

As to why thy Harley is so much lower, my guess is the wheel/tire combo and the AWD drivetrain.

All I know is the HD version that I saw sat lower than my 4X2 Lariat.

Maybe the 4x2 HD did, but the 4x4 sits exactly the same as the other 4x4
