chipped windsheild :/

not sure where to post this...looking for help.

well on my trip coming home from the other side of NC i had a truck throw up a small rock on the windsheild and chipped my windsheild yet again. this chip is about 10-12in from the first one i had. im afraid that they might spread into each other? someone told me to put clear fingernail polish on it to stop spreading (never heard this?). anyone heard of this or tried it? or should i just try to see if insurance will have safelite fix it?

This is an amazing product, I had a rock chip figured it was cheaper then safelite and so I would give it a try, you can't even tell now.

I got it at walmart for 10.00 and just followed the directions, chip is GONE!

Don't know what insurance you carry, (I've got State Farm) but I've had 4 wind screens replaced from stone chips and it's never cost anything out of pocket.

Call your insurance carrier and ask cuz you might be surprised, like me.

How come they tell me I have a $500 deductible on windshield replacement, and I've been with State Farm for almost 15 years, and my folks have been with them for 40-odd years? Lol so many differences within the same insurance companies....

Hey guys, I went through the same thing last month. I was on the interstate when it happened, I drove straight to safelite. When I called my insurance company they said I have a $500 deductible and would have to pay. But safelite told me Allstate and many other insurance companies will pay for it all and gave me a phone number to call to a third party who files windshield repair claims with insurance companies. Apparently MOST insurance companies will pay to repair it (if its possible) rather then footing part of the bill to completely replace it. So even with a $500 comprehensive deductible and my insurance agents secretary saying I would have to foot the bill, I got it done for free.

My 1yr old windshield was replaced by Safelite last week. My insurance deductible is $500. Safelite charged me around $285, so I ended up having to pay for all of it out of pocket. They told me chip repairs are fairly cheap and almost always covered by insurance, but replacements are rarely covered. Most people have a deductible that is too high.

Safelite told me I should've repaired it right away, even after it developed a small crack. It would've been free and almost unnoticeable. Too bad mine spread so quickly.

Some states require the insurance companies, like in Florida, to replace the windshields with no deductibles. However what they don't tell you is it's actually a "claim" on your insurance record. So when you do go to get "new" insurance they will see it. Funny how that works...

I have State Farm and have zero deductible comprehensive. Yes, it costs more than comprehensive with a deductible but it isn't that bad.
