2009 F-150 XLT 4.6 3v Supercab

Ok so I just got my 2009 XLT Supercab with the new 4.6 3v engine in it. I was a little worried that it would not have enough balls compared to my old 2006 FX4 with the 5.4. Well let me just say I was more than empressed with the 4.6 3v. I think the pairing of this engine with the new six speed is amazing, there was plenty of get up and go, not to mention that everything else about this truck just looks so much tougher than the older F-series. I just cant wait for the aftermarket to start putting out some great products.

Please let us know what kind of gas mileage you are getting with your new truck. Am seriously considering a new Ford truck. What axle ratio did you get? Is it a 4x4? Fords Forever!

I will def. get some pic's up as soon as Michigan's beautiful weather gives me a brake from this rain... As far as the gear ratio it is 3.55 and yes it's a 4x4. I will def. post what I'm getting per mile tonight after I do my daily drive.

I have the 4.6 and a 3.73 axle, it has plenty of pep and is getting great gas mileage for now (22mpg City). I am light on the gas pedal though...I traded in my 08 Escape Hybrid which was getting 31mpg.

Enjoy the ride. The new generation of F150 are impressive to say the least.

is the scab roomier than the previous model?

DjG 04-01-2009 06:19 PM

Yeah it's bigger on the inside, my girlfriend got in the truck and said "wow there is alot more room in here from your old truck...". So I did my daily drive today and even alittle moving with the truck today and I'm avg. 14 mpg, im sure this number will continue to increase as the truck is only a day old with 150 miles on it.

Gas Mileage

I have a 2009 XLT Supercab 3V 4.6 with one step up on the axle ratio (3.73?). I have about 900 miles on it now. I got 17.4 mpg on the first tank with about 30% hiway driving. I got 16.5 on the second tank with 100% city. Mileage was measured by dividing total miles driven by galons of fuel used to refill. The fuel mileage indicator on the dash was showing 17.5 average, but I think it tracks a little high.

On my 2007 Tacoma DoubleCab I was getting between 17 and 18 consitantly for the same type of driving, so initially I'm very pleased here with the mileage.

In terms of comfort and ride quality, not to metion intial quality after delivery, the F150 wins by every measure. The Tacoma was a huge disappointment.

22 mpg city? That's hard to believe, even with a 3.15 axle. I'm getting about 16 mpg mixed with my 5.4 3.55 axle.

That mileage sounds incredible. You are making me wonder if I too should have bought the 4.6 3V. I am hoping for 16-17 in mixed driving - mostly highway/country road on my FX4 with the 5.4. I don't have a heavy foot either. Lets see how that goes once I get my truck.

If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. There is no way I would rather have the 4.6 3v XLT over a FX4. 16-17mpg mixed is realistic; my truck has slowly gotten better mileage with age, just has a tick over 4k right now.

DjG 04-13-2009 01:07 PM

I now have 856 miles on my truck and it is getting about 15.4 mpg (mixed), I have the 35 gallon tank and only fill my truck up once a week and it will be on a quarter tank when I do and with gas at 1.97 it takes 45 dollars. The new 4.6 3v is a great engine plenty of power with the new six speed and great on gas compared to the 5.4.

still on my 1st tank with my 09 XL supercab w/ the 4.6 2v. w/ 3.55's. traded my 04 4.6 reg cab.

i was ave about 13 mpg w/ 33's in my 04. the "ave mpg" display on my 09 goes up every day. right now it's at 16.9mpg. Just got it on Friday 4-10-09. i have a heavy foot and it's still going up. i'm cool w/ that.
