2009 Exhaust (Factory or Aftermarket)

Looking at the factory muffler display, it appears as if the 2009 F150 muffler is free flowing. AFE says their 2009 F150 exhaust flows 55% better. Can this be possible or is it just marketing hype? The factory muffler sounds good when you get on it. Just wondering if I would gain any performance with a Magnaflow.

I put a magnaflow on my 04 sounds really good and is way less restrictive but not sure it mad any differnce in performance seems like it may have but think it is really just the sound???

if you dont have anything done to the truck it wont do much but be a noise maker sure you can make it sound good but your not gonna be night and day difference.:coffee:

I've always had great success with JBA stainless exhaust. My buddy and I put the system on his 05 FX4 in 30 minutes after drinking a 12 pack. Perfect fit, killer sound and power.

The new 09 muffler is completely different than the 04-08 mufflers. It was redesigned to be quiet at idle and to scream like an aftermarket muffler at WOT. Now speaking from personal experience with my 09 F150, it does sound awesome at WOT for a stock muffler and I am having trouble deciding on if I should replace it with an aftermarket setup. I probably will just to have the nice idle, but supposedly ford spent 3 years designing the new muffler to sound good and perform well.

Just a question... but you know how Ford offers the dual exhaust option like on the Edge for example... why haven't they had a stock dual on the F150?

Ford designs the muffler to be a good compromise for the mass consumer (not too loud and modest performance). I've seen-but not heard the new 09 muffler. The 09 muffler is still huge and I'm guessing aftermarket smaller and less restrictive mufflers will improve performance..

Just do it.

I did it! Had a local shop weld on a 6"x18" round Magnaflow. They also welded on a Magnaflow tip. I can't say that I notice any performance gains, but it does sound nice. Very quiet in the cab until you get to around 2000 RPM. There are a couple of pictures of the tip in my gallery.
