And thats the point

I really can't say I have ever noticed my truck acting different when I have a passenger or two along, with each weighing that much or more, and my truck only has a four speed, with a measly 265hp and 3.31 gears. It does what I need it to just fine, which is to drive to work everyday and pull my 7000k tractor/trailer with a 2 man pit crew to pulls at county fairs in the summer, powerwise I can't complain a bit as I easily maintain the speed limit, especially considering the rediculous gears I have. It would really rip with 4.10's or even 3.73's.

In my opinion 381 hp is obserd for a run of the mil half ton truck, pretty much tailer made for people that are try to compensate for something, or high school kids that want to beat the snot out of the truck daddy bought them. Most people I know that really need that power just get a 3/4 ton or heavier so they have a truck that can utilize that power alot better when towing. Plus a middle of the road Super Duty will run about the same money that a fully decked out F-150 will bring.
If I wanted to race I would have an M3 sitting in my driveway. I have a 2000 4.6 with the 3.08 So you can imagine she is a dog, not quick at all. But with a fully loaded bed and puling a 4000lb trailer she Cadillacs down the road! And that is what a truck is for. HP is only one factor in the equation. %60 of an engines hp is used to over come drag at highway speeds, so what are our automotive makers doing to compensate for drag? One would be surprised what a difference drag makes. HP has become nothing more than a pissing contest IMO. The real test begins at 75,000 miles or 4 years into the life of the vehicle. The tundras haven't been out long enough. IMO Nissan seems to have done well with it's titan. I do not find the interior as esthetically pleasing, but even so its engine an power train seem to be a nice mesh or power and torque. I believe Ford has listened to the truck drivers and I think the 09 with the 6spd will definitely liven the vehicle up. I think it still suffers in the gear department but thus far many previous owners have had no problems with swapping gears. I think as long as trucks are such a big seller fuel economy must be a consideration. GM has everyone beat hands down. There hybrid truck has been getting rave reviews. The electric assist and variable ratio tranny are stellar for cruising and towing. There is nothing like some DC power to get something going. That being said the truck is also getting 500 miles on a 26 gallon tank! I am lucky to hit 400 on the highway so I hope Ford gets it together on that end. As for my 2000, it still runs quiet and has no rattles. It's an extended cab. The body is spectacular. I am really impressed because as a child of the 80s, I came into cars when American cars sucked *****. It is pleasing to know that my American vehicle is still running strong on the road.

When motor trend reviews a vehicle, it is either purchased or leased. The numbers are given to Motor trend by the auto maker. In the event numbers are not available, Motor trend specifically states this. I just received this months edition with the hybrid reviews and of course the 09 Ford.
Its a good read.

yeah, but it makes no sense that MT would report that the 5.4 torque was increased to 365 when the current 5.4 already has that same maximum torque amount.

I believe the article and specs say the only increase was HP whereas torque remained the same at 365.

again I want to emphasize the issue of power to weight ratio and drag coefficients. These are the things a vehicle must contend with in regards to its over all performance. The numbers can stay the same, but if Ford can get more power to the wheels and reduce drag it would be a money maker any way you slice it. Lotus has been doing it for years by putting a tiny supercharged power plant in a super light vehicle with a super low drag coefficient. a truck needs the weight I think to remain stable and afford a good ride. Bur drag is a bitch period. You guys know how it is to drive into a head wind and if you are towing OMG it sucks!!!!!
Numbers only exist on paper.

Top-range engine (at least until the hush-hush 6.2-liter "Hurricane" V-8 makes its debut with the new-generation Harley-Davidson edition) is the familiar 5.4-liter Triton V-8. Power is up 10 horses to 310 at 5500 rpm, and torque has been boosted to 365 pound-feet at 3750

The point is, how could torque have been boosted when the current 5.4's are rated the same.

Ok seriously? Y'all are still going back and fourth about this?

Would everyone just leave this alone until ford announces the numbers. Is that soooo hard. I have to come in here and read through every one's bickering just to find out ford still hasn't announced the power numbers.

So is the new motor getting its max torque lower in the RPM range? I thought the 07s were generating 300lbs at 1750 RPM and the 365 at 4000 or so. Is this true?

no, it's exactly the same max torque 365 @ 3750 rpm. quit your guessing and go straight to the source (Ford.com) for the current 2007 specs.

I KNOW, that's what we keep saying! I'm trying to make the point to "malexander52" how Motor Trend is wrong.

Ok, this isn't official, but here is a new article from March 1st estimating 330 hp. I have also read (not in this article but from Igor) that the 6.2 will be available 6 months after the debut with an estimated 425 hp.

Much more to a pickup than mere power as Ford's hauler remains the sales champ:
