Poor quality chrome?

I went to give the truck a good wash yesterday. I was not too happy to find out that my chrome front bumper and hook are starting to rust and quite a bit pitted. Is it normal? The truck only has 5000 kms on it and im not impressed. My last truck was a FX4 so i dint have that problem, kinda make me regret to have bought a Lariat now. Should that be cover under warranty when i bring this up with the dealership?

Thanks

Could it be rail dust from when the truck was shipped? I've heard of it affecting paint, I don't see why it couldn't effect chrome. (Rail dust is fine iron particles in the air from transporting via train that is created from metal train wheels on metal train track - both with heavy iron content.) I'd assume you cound remove using the same process as paint if I remember correctly, it involved claybarring, etc. (search in care and detailing section and you will see how others have dealt with it on painted surfaces.

I have the same problem, but just with the chrome tow hooks. A few weeks ago when I washed my truck I noticed they were rusted, but the bumpers were fine. I used some chrome polish on the tow hooks and the rust came off. But now the rust is back on the tow hooks again just after a couple of weeks.

Same here with the rusting tow hooks. I scratched the rear bumper on mine last week and its starting to rust already. Did the same on my 2001 Lariat but the chrome was so thick it never rusted.

Ditto. Front tow hooks are rusting already. Purchased my 2010 in April '10, and only 8,000 miles.

My chrome step bars are showing some signs of age. I have 4400 miles on the truck. Not necessarily rust, but some oxidation/discoloring. Chinese junk.I'll address it with the dealer in the spring.

I'm guessing but this would be covered under warranty?? How long is it covered for . I'm pretty sure paint is only 12 months is it same for the chrome tow hooks and bumpers??

I'd take them all back to the dealer for a warranty claim. These trucks cost too much to settle for anything to be rusted on them when they are that young. I recently had corrosion on my wheels (20" 6 spoke) and got them replaced under warranty. It nevers hurts to try and if it bothers you now, it's going to continue to bother you. Don't settle, take it to the dealer and make them make it right.
