Leveling Kit question

I have seen the most popular leveling kit advertised on here for $229...What is the major difference bewteen that kit and the rest that I have been finding for like $79?? Its a 2" lift to level the front end with the rear...I mean if its just a matter of brand name versus off brand name, id rather get the $79 kit and use the rest to accessorize the truck...Looks like all the kits are designed to be installed the same way and to work the same way...Thanks in advance!

Hi Todd...I am also in the market for a leveling kit as well and have done quite a bit of research on this forum. The $79 one you refer to sounds like the Auto Spring. You may see people refer to it as AS 2.5 or something like that. From what I read in this forum, despite the really low price, it is a very good kit and everyone who has bought one seems to really like it.

As far as the difference in quality compared to Ready Lift at $200 and the AS at $79, not really sure, but based on how satisfied people seem to be with the AS, I'll buy the AS and have it installed for what it would have cost me for just a name brand kit.

Does anyone have a link they can post for the Auto Spring 2.5? I thought it used to be available on e-bay, but I cannot find it.

Here you go.

I went with the 2.5 inch AS kit and have no problems.

The only difference is price. Honestly, it's a very simple product. I can't believe that Ready Lift has the nerve to advertise their leveling kits at those ridiculous prices.

Thanks for the info...I'll go with the AS kit as well...Now I have to figure out what size wheel and tire to go with...That will be the hard part...I might just keep the stock 17" wheels and go with a meaty tire to give it more of a stance for now...Gotta figure how big of a 17" tire I can use with the stock wheels

Should be able to go all the way to a 35x12.5. Guys have been doing it for years. Might have minor clearance issues. Just a small trim on the front bumper plastic. If that bugs you pick a slightly shorter narrower metric tire.

I have 33x9 and they rub a little bit when I'm in full turn in reverse only. This is why I am going to go with a leveling kit. I'm sure you could get 35's on there, but you would definitely need to do some trimming.

What have people who have trimmed their front aprons used? Does it look like crap afterwards?

I went with a 3" billet aluminum spacer for $79.00, and then added a leaf in the rear. I have about a 1/4" rake.

I think 33's will be the biggest I can go with...I will have to go talk to the tire shop to find out which tire will fit my stock rim to get equal to a 33 size tire

I have trimmed my front valance or apron on my truck. I used a razor knife. But - I also took the time to mark/scribe some lines so both sides matched up after trimming. I had to trim a bit more than needed as the tire shop did some initial trimming and basically screwed it up a little. But it looks fine. No one notices unless I mention it has been trimmed.

I have some pictures of it - which I promised to post a couple of days ago. I just havent felt like posting pics yet - I ate alot of smoke driving back to LA over the weekend. If I get around early tomorrow I will upload the pics to my gallery. I keep forgetting to take the camera out of the cave (console).

I had a hard time deciding whether to pick the 2 or the 2.5.

I got the 2 " AS installed today, and guess what......the truck sits higher in the front than the back.....just barely but its noticable....

IDK if that helps anyone, but now I dont know what to do to lift the back (like cheaply) its either blocks or AAL i think but I dont know jack about either.

Good thing you didn't go 2.5"!!!

Seriously, that was my fear in doing the 2" leveling kit on my 2wd Platinum. I'm anxiously awaiting the answer on what to do to raise the rear...

Thanks for the heads up...Thats good to know...Also, my co-worker drove her 2002 F150 to work and parked next to my 2009...Wow, what a huge difference in ride height...I did not realize how much taller the new F150's sit than the old ones...Makes the older ones look like a car...lol...So im thinking not even messing with the level kit now...Maybe just get some nice wheels and go with that look...Its tall enough for me stock...I dont want the front end higher than the rear..Im not messing with blocks...Then the dealer will tell me my warranty is voided or some b.s. Anyway, thanks again for helping me make my decision
