TPMS Stem/Sensor Assembly

Getting ready for winter already...

I bought a set of sensors/stems for my old wheel/tire setup for winter use.

I have the 4 sensors, and a new package of stems with 4 small screws.

Here is a photo (harvested) showing the stem & sensor already assembled:



Since I won't be removing my present sensors from my wheels to see how they go together, I'm using the above photo as a guide.

So it looks simple enough - I have the parts on my desk, and gently tried inserting the small screw into the end of the stem. It seems as thought the end of the stem isn't threaded as the screw won't start in easily.

I want to be prepared when I take my wheels to my buddy with a tire machine to do the install.

Does the screw that goes into the end of the stem hard to go in (as it makes its own treads as it goes in)?
Also, do you assemble the stem & sensor before or after you insert the stem into the wheel?

Hopefully someone has done this already and have a simple answer for me.

Well, not replies in a couple weeks, so I guess I will be the guinea pig on this one.

well the sensor has to be screwed tightly to the steam, but Ford sensors come put together, all i can says is try and put them together, and then you just pull them through the steam hole, with the sensor facing inward.

Thanks Deano - I am guessing that the screw will makes its own threads into the soft brass section of the stem acting like a lock nut of sorts so it won't come apart.
I have also heard this is why you need to use new stems each time you do a change like this.

Went very easily -

I assembled the stem and sensor first - just as I thought, the screw goes in kind of hard the whole way - just like turning into a lock nut. I can see the reason for this as you don't want the screw backing out after installed.

After putting the sensor and stem together, we just pulled the stems through the wheel - the stems are fairly solid (don't bend like rubber ones) so we used a wooden block below the stem tool to be sure we got a straight pull through the wheel.

Just installed the wheels/tires last week, and using the Ford training tool, was very easy to follow the directions in the manual for adapting the sensors to the truck computer.
