Too much weight on tailgate?

Anyone have any idea how much weight our tailgates can support? I just bought a lifted golf cart and when it's in the bed the back tires are out of the bed and completely on the tailgate. I"m just a little paranoid about the cables breaking and creasing the tailgate over my bumper. Any ideas?

WE NEED PICTURES!!! And the tail gates are pretty strong from my tests and trials? Me and 2 friends have set on it with no problem. Easy 600+ lbs.

I had an 800+lb piece of granite sit on my tailgate while I caught my breath for a minute or so, My 500+lb snowmobile has rested most of it's weight there a time or two..I wouldn't worry about it.

My quad weighs in at around 600lbs and I add another 200 to it. Tailgate doesn't budge when loading it and my rear tires also rest on the tailgate. Never had a problem. Don't worry about it, you didn't buy a Tundra

They can hold some decent weight, the problem is when your driving. You hit a bump and the load comes down with twice the force and breaks the cables. I have seen it first had with lumber.

Don't worry, the Ford is not as fragile as the Tundra with their self destructing tailgate. I've stacked over 800 pounds of Quikrete on the tailgate with no ill effects. I've done far worse to the F-150's at work. No damage.

Doesn't the Truth about Trucks have a section on the tailgate construction of the F-series? The tailgate is built like a tank compared to the competition.

It will take it just fine. I, along with others, have had more wieght on the tailgate alone than what the whole truck is supposed to haul...

Thanks for the help. I'll get some pictures up Monday. My best guess is that it weighs between 700 and 1000 lbs.

ditto with everybody else.

I weigh 270 lbs. I've gotten up and jumped up/down on my tailgate. Was kinda curious how it would hold up after seeing the Tundra issues.

also had myself and a few buds standing on it while loading the truck with crap to move.

I'm 240+, buddy is 280 and other buddy is 220. We've all sat on y tailgate at the same time with no I'll effects other than two rear blown out tires.

I (195lbs) drove my old Wheel Horse tractor (770lbs) up some wooden planks, onto the tailgate and into the bed of my 06. No problem. When driving it off the truck, the tractor's rear wheel hung up on the plank and my brother jumped up on the tailgate to help lift the wheel onto the plank. (an additional 185lbs) So the gate handled over 1100lbs no problem. Hope this helps.

I've put cut up firewood and whole logs, bucket,forks, grapple buckets on both my 1 & 250's and not so much as a sqeek. I like the new tail gate step but hate that its not flat. Don't know if that would compermise strength either.

I put over 800 pounds of weight on it with no problem. I bet it's tensile strength is about ~1200 lbs...
