Thumbs up News from Vegas

Here we are. highlights from Vegas:

-Two models: Supercab Lariat, XL Sport and two "cabs" featuring the interior.
-Lariat had console shift
-Lariat console/interior reminds him of Navigator in many ways.
-Many new options dual zone climate control etc...
-Lariat had egg crate grill although subject to change.
-XL had grill @ Superduty/Sport Trac. (proabbly like pic on invite)
-Intereior reported to be "awesome"
-5.4L 3V with 305 or 310 Hp.
-New transmisions.
-Exterior looks: Decribed as follows: "Tough, looks like a Ford, Trucklike", Overall incredible lines. Will blow you away!
-No pics. Reported to be surrounded by armed Vegas police.
-The insiders at Ford reported that as good as it looks and as good as the intereior design is, its the ride/suspension that will really blow away the competition. Plus the new transmission will set new standards for pickups. (read Pickuptruck.com review on new 6.0L Powerstroke and new Torqshift tranny for an idea of whats in store)
-No word on "4 door" reg cab, or size of Supercrew. Obviously the Supercab lives on as they had one there. Hard to determine how much it grew in size as the cab was a cutaway cab.
-No word on wheel size etc...

Basically the fellow I spoke to said this truck makes the 2003 look like a peice of crap. Strong words.

I'm with you on that one. No console shifter please...it's a truck!!

A console shifter in a HD or a L would be cool, but let's keep a truck a truck please.

Sounds too good to be true. I can't wait to see one all loaded up.

Looks like my 01 SCREW will be replaced next Fall.

Console shifter only on Lariat. So don't get too worried. And no word of pricing yet. Way too soon for that. They only start building them June 01/03. Hit dealers in @ Sept. 11 months guys... But only 3 months until all the info is out at the Detroit auto show.

I was told, 11 different interior packages, and two different tailgate options. And the new mustang is a '67 retro look..... also a new entry level SUV??? Whatever....

Yes the Mustang is a Retro look although I heard more '68? Whatever wither way it should be pretty nice. First new chassis since the late 70's! And the entry level SUV was the "Free Styler" which until last week was known as the "Crosstrainer" which is based on the upcoming Ford Fivehundred sedan... Its a car based SUV one notch below the Escape.

As far as the concerns over a console shifter in a Lariat goes, I fail to see why that would be such a big concern? Please explain.

It wouldn't be classified as a truck in Texas.... can you see a cowboy console shifting?

Wink

I bet they said the same thing about power steering and power windows back 20 years ago...

I do agree I would prefr the shifter staying where it is. A console shifter provides more control over shifting which is not really required when you have all the HP & TQ of trucks... PLus it takes up valuable console space for larger cup holders etc...

I agree,

If people are buying fully loaded Lariats with leather seating etc,
a center console shifter will most likely be welcomed.

I myself prefer the stalk shifter, rubber floor and bench seat. I like to get it dirtly, its easy to clean and easy permits easy access to the woman.

Console shifter

Just imagine it's a manual transmission.......I've driven "3 on the Tree" and I vowed to never do that again.

Thumbs up

Options have jumped to the point of being luxury cars just in the last 15 to 20 years. My first truck(vehicle of any kind) was a 61 F-100. The only thing padded on the interior was the seat. Everything else was metal on the interior, and I mean EVERYTHING. My 98 XLT is like a top of the line Lincoln compared to that truck. I have a feeling I'm going to love the new design, although I may not be able to afford a new one If the new Mustang looks anything like the artist rendering I saw a while back, I will love it too. It looked like a jaguar coupe with side scoops and a 68 model grill.,,,,98
