I agree. A 7/70 warranty is completely unnecessary.
Even the 3/36 shows a lack of faith on both sides.
When I was picking up my new truck, one of the many papers I had to sign was a document putting the warranty into affect.
I flatly refused to sign. The salesman continued to hold the pen in front of me.
"Never, from such noble hand sir." says I.
He laughed.
I laughed.
We both laughed for a long time.
I think he was laughing because he was selling a new vehicle without a warranty.
I was laughing because he had a piece of spinach on his teeth.
( In hindsight, I wish I had got some kind of warranty. When I was leaving they gave me the wrong keys and charged me $84 to get the right ones and it happened twice!)

The 7 year, 70,000 mile warranties are purely marketing gimmicks. It is used to build sales of lesser selling brands and models. Chrysler offered this back in the early 80's to rebuild the company. They dropped it for many years and just brought it back again. Check out the cheaper imports, they are doing the same thing. Once demand builds, the warranty will be cut back. So, to answer your question, unless Ford's sales drop further, I doubt they will ever offer it.

Chrysler's 7/70K warranty is a limited powertrain (only) warranty with a deductible. If you read the fine print, it's better than a slap in the face, but it's not what most people think it is. We hear warranty and assume that all is covered. That's why it works so well. Snake oil still sells!
