Installing new Chrome bumper on an 05

After stone chips started rusting it's time for a new chrome bumper. Ordered it from dealer as for being in Alaska its just as cheap. No re-chroming or electroplating shops here. Not many youtube videos on this but the few that are show taking the upper bumper cover off as well, which would really suck as I put on new fender flares a cpl months ago and they are attached to the upper bumper by the 3M tape. Can I just take off the chrome bumper without the upper cover?

On my 2007, I remember just taking the bumper off. To the best of my memory, there are a few bolts holding the upper bumper cover to the bumper. There are only a few bolts which attach the bumper to the bumper mounts.

You don't have to remove the plastic bumper cover.

To remove the front bumper, remember to disconnect the battery and wait at least 15 minutes.

Standard hand tools are necessary to remove the front bumper. A second hand makes it go easier - BUT NOT required.

Mine is '07, I removed and reinstalled front bumper once. Left upper plastic cover in place easy enough. I had hit a "Bambee" that ran out from side of road and had that upper cover repainted and frt bumper replaced, then after body shop did a great paint but lousy alignment of parts, I redid mounting.
Year or two later, salt sprayer truck passed me and chipped frt bumper paint, so I had it off again to repaint.

I wonder why you say that?

Isn't the frontal crash sensor that deploys the airbags up front in that area? I think this is just to minimize the chance that a stray voltage spike could deploy an airbag. If someone has other thoughts, I'm sure they'll add them.
