What part number Motorcraft plugs did you put in?
|
I believe they were the sp546, it was a year ago. Pulled one, it was brown so i just ordered the brown boots.

Nope, those use the black boots. DG511. Brown boots are for mid-2008 and newer with SP-509 plugs, DG521.
The SP546 are still 2 piece, they are more resistant to breakage. The only reason I asked about the plugs is to eliminate the possibility that the heads or engine were not original. Truck all original, i bought from original owner, wich i knew very well with 58,000 miles, he had never done anyfhing but oil and filter changes. I put the plugs in 1 year ago at 152,000, never paid attention to boot colors. Had a COP on number 7 going bad, was going to order all new set and noticed black and brown available. Pulled number 7, it was brown so ordered brown boot set from D.U.I

So 509 is one piece. Does it fit these heads, and does it still use the brown boots because i was positive i got 1 piece plugs since they were now available a year ago, but boots have never been changed on the truck before.

Look at the pictures I posted. SP509 will NOT fit in 2005 heads. SP546 are NOT 1 piece plugs, they are improved and reinforced 2 piece. The only 1 piece plugs for 2005 heads are Champion, Brisk, or E3, none of which I'd recommend.
2004 - mid 2008: SP546 with DG511 cops. Mid-2008 - end of production: SP-509 with DG521 cops. |
