Transmission replacement?

Hey guys, I have a 2005 F-150 with 175k that’s been well taken care of. I always use ford parts when parts need to be replaced. I recently started to hear a noise from the transmission when it’s in gear and sitting still, noise goes away when in park or neutral. Dealer thinks it’s either front pump or torque converter. Dealer wants to replace tranny for 3600$ or rebuild for 3200$. Service writer is pushing for replacement because of warranty. Would youo replace tranny or take the 3600$ and put it towards a new truck?

If it has a 5.4 3 valve, I'd get a new truck.

If it's a 3v, you never know when the engine will start giving issues with the VCT.

My rebuilt trans was $1500, cash & carry. Your vehicle is a great candidate for a used trans. Might get a year, might get 5. Roll the dice.

The dealer only gave me two options really. Reman for 3600$, that includes 10 hrs labor or a rebuild the one in my truck for 3200$ which includes 20 hrs labor. I’m thinking about doing a reman which gives me a 3yr 36k warranty. I worry about going somewhere else and getting a rebuilt one put in because I know there’s metal floating around in the lines. I know the dealer will do a good job with flushing wverything out and I don’t know if some of these independent shops have the knowledge or equipment to do it right. I also know I could get about 6k for my truck so until the repairs exceed the value with my truck I think I’ll keep it. I’ll keep you guys updated with what I decide. ThNks everyone for your input

Who rebuilt your trans? Or did you put a rebuilt one in to replace your old one? How many miles have you gone so far? Did you get a warranty?
