Driveshaft Slip Yoke - Keyway vs. Non Keyway
 

Will an aftermarket 28 spline slip yoke that does not have a keyway (gap in the splines) fit into the transmission and align on the output shaft correctly the same as the OEM slip yoke that has a keyway gap and you know of course, the staked U Joints in it?

2005 F-150, XLT, RWD, Super Cab, 6.5' bed, 144.7" Wheel Base, 4.6L V-8, with a 8.8" rear end, 10 bolt cover.

I believe it has a 4R70 transmission - not sure if it is an "E" or "W" as I have read different sources that conflict each other.

Will the first pictured slip yoke install into the transmission and work properly?

Please take note of the differences in the splines pictured below when answering.

No gap in the splines, I have been told the gap is called a "keyway" - aftermarket slip yoke - to be inserted into the rear of the transmission.

Do you have yours out right now? If so, look at the output shaft and you should be able to tell right away.

No, I attempted the install this last weekend. When I saw the differences in the splines, I backed off and re-installed the worn out, but still functional drive line. I did not want to try and install the different part and possibly create an issue in which new part would not fully install and do something to the output shaft then making it so the old driveshaft would not go back in properly. I would be without 4 wheel transportation then.
Can't really haul around a driveshaft on the back of a HD motorcycle... if you know what I mean.

All work was done on a driveway in front of my house. I will need to get the vehicle up higher if I want to look at the output shaft of the transmission. I was just hoping somebody could look at the two pictures and "know off of the top of their head" whether or not the two pictured would interchange on the Ford transmission.
