gas milieage
 

I just picked up a 2007 F150 XLT Supercab with the 5.4L. I've been monitoring the gas mileage for 3 tanks of gas now and am averaging 10 mpg. Does this sound accurate, is there anything I can do to increase this?

That sounds low for that truck, assuming it's STOCK. Is it lifted and/or does it have oversize/aggressive tires? How many miles are on it, and do you have any maintenance records? Is it 2wd or 4wd? Have you checked the speedometer/odometer accuracy against a GPS and highway mile markers?

In stop & go traffic, which takes me almost an hour to get 7 miles across town, I get about 12 MPG. But you have to be able to imagine gridlocked traffic which does not move. So all that you're doing is sitting there, idling, and wasting fuel.

My 04 gets 12-13 in normal driving and 17-18 on the interstate. Been that way since I bought it new, It gets about 10 pulling a 25' travel trailer.

Gas mileage on this generation truck isn't something worth talking about. It's a truck and it will burn your pockets regardless. Let's hope it's paid off and all that gas expense will make it seem better than a new car payment for the next 5, 7, 10 years. The newer trucks are getting a "little bit" more efficient but not enough to justify the high price tag for it though. Best to find yourself a lil grocery getter that gets 30mpg around the city if you don't want to visit the pump so often in your truck.
