05 F150 Shudders when starting to move forward.

05 F150 96K miles

Around town truck was driving fine. After 90min or so of driving she would sometimes shift hard from 1st to 2nd. Took it to a transmission shop and they took a look, changed the fluid and said everything was fine. Still did it occasionally. Fast forward about a year. Still shifting hard from 1 to 2 drove it about 2 hours to pick up a waverunner. Everything was fine then when stopping for a traffic light it started shuddering really bad just before stopping. I though one of the trailer tires must have locked up. I figured when the light turned green I would just drag it through the intersection into a parking lot and look at it there. It started to take off smoothly then started shuddering again. As I accelerated it smoothed out. I pulled into the parking lot anyway and as I slowed shuddering returned. Stopped. Started to move forward again. Started smooth then shuddering again. Accelerated she smoothed out. Slowed down Shuddered again. Put it in reverse, smooth the whole way.

Paid to have it towed home. Left for vacation but am back now and need to get it repaired.

Do these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? Simple fix or get ready to write a big check?

What engine?

Also, did you check for codes on it?

It almost sounds like a misfire condition.

Check Engine light is not on now. ODB2 reader is in my other car that is not here now. Will check when the wife gets back.

Also, check to see how the fluid is. Is it up to the correct marking on the dipstick when HOT?

Does it smell burnt or look brown?

When I had the issue I did check and the fluid was clean, did not smell, and was within the acceptable range on the stick. Not sure how I can get it hot now since I cannot drive it.

At 96k, you need new spark plugs. That may or may not fix it. Also note that the 05 5.4 had bad fuel injectors, if the gas mileage is bad I'd bet one or more are leaking.

Just had plugs and wires done.

Mileage is Mid 14. Is that considered bad?

A little.

I would do what glc recommended and look at the fuel injectors.

Mid 14 is not bad around town.

Wires? It doesn't have wires, it has coil on plug.

Bolt on the Passenger side Caliper must not have been tighten because it was about to fall off. Causing it to lock that wheel.
